WHAT CAN YOU AS PARENTS DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD?

1. Make sure that he/she does homework every day. 2. Sign homework. 3. Count with your child forwards and backwards. 4. Do combinations: Five sheep plus 14 sheep = 19 sheep. Also do it with money. 5. Count in 2's, 3's, 4's and 5's. Work on tables. 6. TALK ENGLISH. Work on vocabulary. 7. Help your child to look for pictures. Sometimes they have to find information. 8. Look at television programs the same as our themes. We do the weather, water, air, etc. We will supply you with the list of themes. Look with your child and explain where necessary. 9. On Fridays we write spelling and mathematics tests. Please assist your child to learn the words and combinations. 10. Your children must read a lot at home. At school they visit the school library, please see to it that they read from these books. ^ LIFE SKILLS: We do most of these activities in the class. Sometimes assignments will be given. The child must learn to do things by himself, e.g. make his/her bed himself/herself, help to lay the table, buy bread, etc. This would help them to become independent.

LITERACY/ FORMAL WORK:

Reading, word building, language activities and writing exercises be done. Every week we teach them two new phonics. We also do Afrikaans stories and rhymes. Please make sure your child keeps up with the spelling that is given for homework. ASSESSMENT: We do assessment continually. Marks are allocated to each formal assessment. At the end of the term the learners receive their reports on the assessment standards done during the term and his/her achievement during the term.

EXTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES: Look out for the monthly newsletters for necessary information.

1. Swimming: We shall let you know when swimming activities will take place. Learners may not take part in swimming after school if a return slip is not received by the coaches. If a learner can not behave themselves at the pool, they will not be allowed to take part in swimming activities any longer.

2. C.S.A: During Wednesday the C.S.A. gathering takes place. Any child may take part. It's not run by a particular church group. Learners will have the opportunity to read from the Bible, sing, and praise and have fun.

3. Chess: Mrs. Ida Reed is in charge. Look out for information in the newsletter.

4. Mini netball, bulletjie rugby and mini cricket: We shall let you know when these activities will take place.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT;

It is important that parents are involved in children's activities. It builds your child's confidence. Children love to see that their parents are involved. We encourage you to attend and support them.

Parents pay school fees and each child has the right to education. A child who disrupts the class is taking away the learning opportunity from the other children. Discipline starts at home. Please help us in this regard, as it is in every ones best interest to have an optimal learning environment with as little as possible disruptions.

BIRTHDAY: The tuck shop prepares party packs for birthdays. Please make use of this facility. Order two weeks in advance. Please make sure to cut the cake if you send one to school. Please also send serviettes. Party packs are also welcome. We prefer cup cakes as they are easier to share in classes with a lot of learners.

Thank you for your co-operation in these matters.

Regards Foundation Phase teachers.
