On September 25th, WHYY will officially open a major facility 12,000 SF addition to its public media Technology Center located on Independence Mall in Philadelphia - the “Hamilton, Public Media Commons”. This unique, multimedia life-long learning, content creation and event facility is designed to accommodate all types of media production, technology education, experimentation and a diverse schedule of special events.
WHYY will host a special joint meeting preview and a tour for the members and guests of the Philadelphia Section of SMPTE, the local chapter of the SBE and other regional professional organizations on Tuesday evening, September 21st from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm.
The design consultant, RJC Designs, the system integrator, Vistacom, Broadcast Pix, AMX, Community Pro Speakers and others will join WHYY’s VP & CTO, Bill Weber to present the many technology and architectural components of this innovative, converged design that supports a 3000 SF studio with a 16’ x 9’ theatrical style HD screening system, HD robotic cameras, HD control room, two media classrooms, edit suites and a 130 node, 20’x 65’ LED soft image display - a hi-tech building feature facing downtown Philadelphia.
Tours will be available before and after the program that will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided. Underground parking on Independence Mall is available at 6th & Arch Sts. The evening rate is $9.50. Upon arriving at WHYY you will also receive a $2 discount coupon that can be used when you exit the parking lot. Other nearby parking lots and metered street parking is also available.
