HERNWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 2012-2013 “Moving Forward and Shifting from Awareness to Action in Reading, Math, and Science as We Race to the Top!”

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Families of Hernwood Elementary School,

SPRING IS OFFICIALLY ON ITS WAY… March offers exciting events here at Hernwood. Beginning on March 4th we have MSA testing for grades 3-5. Please refer to the MSA schedule on our Calendar page for the exact dates, times and grades involved. Don’t forget Maryland Spirit Day on March 25th. Please save the date for Hernwood’s Kids-for-Hopkins Walk-a-Thon, Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our Science MSA Testing will begin on April 10th for Grade 5. If you have any questions about any of the above events, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

It is hard to believe that we are in the third quarter of school already. We will be having our Pre-Kindergarten Screening on Thursday, May 2nd and Kindergarten Early Registration on Wednesday, May 1st. If you know of anyone who has a child who will be four or five on or before September 1, 2013, please ask them to contact our office to schedule an appointment at 410-887-0732/33. Enclosed in this newsletter is a Climate Survey for parents. We would appreciate you taking the time to complete and return the survey by May 4, 2013. The information is very helpful in developing and maintaining programs and policies.

Please know how much we appreciate your continued cooperation and support in making decisions based on what is best for our boys and girls of Hernwood Elementary School.

With Warmest Regards, Dr. Cathy Gantz Dr. Cathy Gantz
