Implementaion Plan- FINESSE Workshop 3/09 Human Impact on Global Climate Change Authored by: Mary Brown Stacy Daniels Laura Thurlow

Objectives: Implement an Inquiry based activity to help students investigate relationships between human impact and global climate change. We are going to make students aware of the cognitive challenges of thinking of the climate change issues from the perspective of local and global impact and also to allow them to recognize the benefits of long term system thinking versus short term.

Implementation Plan: To field test the activity written at FINESSE in an integrated science class this semester, with all authors present.

To fine tune the activity based upon the reactions of the students, and refine the activity collaboratively.

Assessment: The product (the physical report given by groups of students) will be evaluated by rubric which will be written by the authors. The objectives of the report will be evaluated in the rubric, and will include data presentation, analysis of data, and the Vee diagram coherence.

Additional detail to the Implementation Plan: I will be adding the “appropriate” question detail into a current capstone event done by students in ISCI 121, Capstone Option B, in which the students design their own experiment to be presented to the class.

Also, a definition of inquiry will be placed in to Option A (those students who are involved in a field practicum) and require that the four designed experiments done in their classroom be inquiry based), the inquiry requirement will be added to the rubric evaluation.
