POST DOCTORAL PSYCHOLOGY FELLOW

POSITION SUMMARY Occidental College’s Emmons Wellness Center has openings for two full-time Postdoctoral Psychology Fellows for the academic year of 2017-2018. The primary goal of this Fellowship is the refinement of applied professional skills through supervised practice, modeling, seminars, assigned readings, and collegial interaction in a diverse and respectful college environment. Outreach and collaboration with other departments is also a vital part of this program. The fellowship provides advanced training in university/college counseling. The fellow is presented with opportunities to work with a wide range of presenting problems and levels of psychopathology, including developmental and relational issues, eating disorders, trauma, mood and anxiety problems, early psychotic breaks, and drug and alcohol issues.

The position begins on August 7, 2017 and ends on May 18, 2018. The full-time post-doctoral experience is structured to meet all requirements for the 1,500 hours of post-doctoral supervised professional experience (SPE) necessary for licensure in California. Note that it is the post-doctoral candidate’s responsibility to determine whether this placement will meet the requirements for licensure in other states, as some states require more than 1,500 hours of SPE and may have additional regulations regarding these hours.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS  Providing individual, couple and group counseling (approximately 60 percent of time)  Daytime crisis intervention  Psycho-educational outreach programs, training/consultation with faculty and staff of the colleges, and other duties as assigned  Post-doctoral fellows are provided with two hours per week of individual supervision, two and a half hours per week of group supervision and two hours per week of didactic training and case presentations. A licensed senior staff psychologist provides all supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS  Applicants must have a completed Ph.D or Psy.D in counseling or clinical psychology at the time of employment. Candidates must complete their degree requirements by August 7, 2017 to be considered.  Experience in a college or university counseling center is a significant asset, as is experience with crisis intervention.  Preference will be given to candidates from APA-accredited academic programs. The strongest applicants will demonstrate interest, professional commitment, and experience in university or college counseling centers and student development.
