OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

This exciting new post within the Living Landscapes team will co-ordinate the day-to day running of our existing citizen-science projects and help develop new projects. The post will initially be part-time and focus on the development and delivery of the new Hedgerow Heroes project, but increasing to full time once further funding is secured for RiverSearch.

Hedgerow Heroes is a new, initially 2-year, citizen science project focussing on the “green network” of semi-natural habitat in Surrey. Acting as a natural partner to the RiverSearch programme, it is a principal component of the Trust’s Living Landscape Strategy.

Hedgerow Heroes will train volunteers to survey the condition of hedgerows in Surrey and produce an inventory of this important semi-natural habitat. It will deliver courses in hedgerow management and develop hedgerows and hedgerow networks to deliver the ecosystem services provided by hedges such as natural flood management and pollination. The Coordinator will support the Living Landscapes Project Manager in the initial development of the Hedgerow Heroes project and thereafter take responsibility for the day- today management.

RiverSearch has been running for 3 years and now has 100+ volunteers across Surrey who engage in river monitoring including sampling using the RiverFly methodology, and who undertake practical river-restoration projects. The project is one of the principle delivery mechanisms of Catchment Based Approach aspects of Living Landscape. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
