New Greenville VA Health Care Centers Opens Jan. 13

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Eastern North Carolina Veterans currently receiving patient care services at the Greenville VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will now receive their health care at the newly constructed Greenville VA Health Care Center, starting January 13th. The new HCC address is 401 Moye Boulevard, less than a mile away from the old CBOC location at 800 Moye Boulevard. “We’re extremely pleased to welcome eastern North Carolina Veterans to their new medical home,” said Thomas S. Delaney, who will serve as administrator of the new VA facility. “We will turn out the lights at the old location at the end of the business day Friday, spend the weekend tying up loose ends and begin treating our Veterans at our new showplace facility first thing Monday morning. The building is being readied for patient care services, with medical equipment, computers, phones, and furniture being installed in preparation for relocation of former Greenville VA Clinic staff and start date for operations at the new facility.” Initially, Veterans will receive primary care and mental health services within the 116,000- square foot facility that is nearly seven times larger than the one it replaces. However, as staff and demand grow, specialty services including but not limited to women’s health, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, audiology, cardiology, orthopedics, optometry and dental services will be added. The ultimate goal, Delaney said, is to bring a wide array of medical services to Greenville so that Veterans throughout the region will have easier access to specialty health care closer to home. He added that although the new HCC offers a greater range of services than previously available, it is not a hospital and will not have an emergency room or walk in clinic. Enrolled patients will be seen by appointment. The new facility will support a full range of specialty and ancillary services for an estimated 20,000 Veterans living in eastern North Carolina. Once current Greenville CBOC staff has transitioned to the new facility, the new HCC is expected to provide employment to approximately 300 staff. The Greenville VA Health Care Center was built by Gilbane Development Company under the terms of a long-term, full service contract that includes design, construction, maintenance, and a 20-year lease-back agreement for which VA will pay approximately $3.8 million per year.
