NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY 1 Tannery and Tannery and Leather TALIU registered in 1995 and embarked on establishing a tannery in leather improvement Ltd (TALIU) Uganda. The Tannery is located on a 20-acre land in Masaka, 130 km from improvement Kampala. The company was technically assisted by UNIDO in the site selection, assessment of equipment needs and preparation of feasibility studies. Currently, the tannery produces semi-finished processed leather (wet blue) from grade 1 and 2 hides and skins. The company is planning in next phase have 30% of the wet blue leather further processed into crust thereafter finished leather. The company is looking for a strategic investor to improve on the quality of products through up grading of the machinery. Estimated investment cost US$ 1.13 million. 2 Fish processing The Fish Monger Limited The company was established in 1994 and is currently involved in the and Export processing and export of frozen and chilled fillets as well as fish bladders in Tanzania and Kenya with employment totaling 300 people. The promoter now wants to establish a 100 ton/day processing plant producing the following products: chilled fillets, frozen fillets, chest neck, bladders – wet, red meat/chips, carcasses, skins and fats from Nile perch and tilapia. The promoter is seeking for technical expertise, relevant technology, market access and partnership possibilities to be able to produce 600 hides; 1,500 skins per day. Estimated investment cost US$ 4 million and a bigger proportion shall be committed by the promoter.. 3 Poultry Biyinzika Enterprises Ltd The promoters have been in poultry farm business for over 20 years and now produces about 2 million broiler chicks and 500,000 thousand layer chicks per year. The main business now is production of day-old-chicks, poultry feeds, Unimix porridge and grain trading with current turnover in excess of US$1.6 million. The company is now venturing into putting up a new farm of commercial broilers as well as a processing plant for dressed chicken for which it is seeking for a Belgian partner with capital ( for a poultry house, processing plant, refrigerated trucks for frozen broilers, etc. The cost shall depend on the type of technology and the source. 4 Setting up a Katumba Furniture & Expansion of the existing carpentry workshop to make executive sofa sets, NO. Estimated investment costs US$ 500.000. 5 Production of the Twiga Dairies Limited Twiga Dairies Limited plant's installed capacity is: 5,000 litres per hour of milk powder Twiga Chemical Industries pasteurised milk; and 6,000kgs per day of dry milk powder. The company (U) Ltd plants to modernise the plant by: a) adding additional equipment to match the international quality standards; b) provide dry milk powder and instantized milk powder for added value. Later (stage 2), they plan to venture into ice cream, butter, ghee and flavoured milk. This plant is expected to start running again in September 2005. To commence operations, they are looking for: a) right partner to help in technical and commercial partnership b) plant and machinery to upgrade the current set up. c) long-term financial support 6 Manufacturing of Chrisams Designs Ltd The objective of the project is to utilize the excess milk and make the milk supplementary products out of it. This project will produce 1000kg of butter products per year, 2000kg of ice cream per year. The project will supply 18 supermarkets. The company is looking for a strategic joint venture partner and the technical know how as well as equipment for the plant. 7 Agro-seed Radico International Group The company was established in 1994. The goal of the project is to distribution, Agro- Ltd encourage non-traditional cash crops diversification which can be well seed consultancy accommodated by small holders farm families, to promote, revitalize and encourage grain growing, to establish crop oil processing and marketing in Rakai District for export market. 8 Rehabilitation and Kampala Rehabilitation The project specializes in Rehabilitation medicine: amputation, polio, medical Services Centre Ltd physical deformities, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and some relevant aspects of general medicine. The project will provide prostheses, braces, shoes and rehabilitation services where currently there is a big gap in the market. There are two million Ugandans who need rehabilitative medical services and only about 20% of them can access treatment today. The company is looking for a joint venture partner as well as equipment purchase and technology transfer. Estimated investment costs US$ 250,000 NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY 9 Edible oil Food Feed industries and Founded in 1997 the company is manufacturing clear transparent odorless production and suppliers Ltd tasty cottonseed oil along with fiber free cotton seed cake with the ultimate consequent aim of growing mushrooms strictly for exporting. The 5 tons of cottonseeds mushroom husks that remain every day during the hulling process shall be utilised in growing for the proposed project. Financial collaboration is being sought for the project exports from joint venture partners. Estimated investment costs US$ 277,579 10 Great Lakes Ericma Self Reliance Ltd The company is expanding its textiles, accessories, clothing design and Clothing & Textile manufacturing facilities to penetrate the large and expanding Great Lakes manufacturing Region comprising countries of: Sudan, Congo(DRC), Rwanda, Burundi, and Accessories Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. This expansion will constitute the 1st phase. Expansion The 2nd phase will emphasize industrial products. Estimated investment costs US$ 4.5 million 11 Dyeing of the African Textile Mill Limited ATM came into operation in 1968. It is an integrated textile mill operating cotton clothes and (ATM) both spinning and weaving departments. Its annual peak production bed sheets reached 7 million meters in 1972. The company is worth US$20 million but is currently operating at less than 10% of its installed capacity. The owners are seeking for strategic partners to inject in the company capital base so that all departments of the production process can optimally operate. Estimated investment costs US$20 million. 12 Tourism Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd Founded in 1996, the company specializes in the development of a resort for development Eco tourism on timeshare basis and in tourist packages. The site of the project is on Lake Bunyonyi in the south west of Uganda. This area of the country has a natural scenic beauty in the highlands and with a large fresh water lake. It is also close to the Mountain Gorilla tracking sites. The company is looking for a joint-venture partner for marketing and management expertise. 13 Wet Blue Tannery Siraji Enterprises Ltd The project seeks to set up a modern tannery to transform 2400 metric tons of bovine skins to wet blue stage, 600,000 pieces of goat/ sheep skins will also be transformed to wet blue stage. The product will be excellent semi- worked skin for producing refined leather. The tannery will generate market for raw hides and skins, employment and income in a short payback period of four years. It will enhance Uganda’s efforts to promote manufacture of quality leather; will introduce new technology and skills in the leather industry. NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY Estimated total investment costs US$2,6 million. 14 Food Processing RECO Industries Ltd. The company has a business history extending over 20 years with assets worth well over US$2 million to date and still growing. The company has 100 permanent employees and one of the leading manufacturers of food products in Uganda that include: fresh fruit juices, concentrates, jams, marmalades, chili & ketch-up. The company is seeking a partner as well as quality technology for juice concentrate with an aroma recovery evaporator (i.e. spray drying plant for fruits powder, distillation column & an aseptic flush freezer); Machinery for papain plant (i.e. a lyopholizer for freeze drying, basket centrifuge – 1600rpm & chromatography column); water treatment plant with sludge tanks and pH controls. Expansion cost of project is US$4.7 million. 15 Fish Processing JW Victoria Agro Industries This is a new project which the company is promoting with the aim to establish a fishing fleet and a fish processing plant to supply the local processing plants already located along the Lake Victoria shores. The fishing operations will be on the fishing grounds of Lake Victoria of the Ssese Islands group adjoining Tanzania territorial waters, an area of approximately 7,800 square kilometres that is not currently fished by artisan fishermen or any other commercial ventures operating larger vessels. The project promoters are seeking for viable potential partners to promote the venture with technological supply. Expected cost of the project is US$5 million. 16 Paper and Paper JW Victoria Agro Industries The project is new and the promoter would want to utilise the available raw Products materials (wood pulp, banana stem/fibre pulp and other bagasse pulp) to Manufacturing satisfy over 70% of the local demand currently met by imported paper products. In the long run, the promoters also plan to own wood pulp forests for sustenance. The project is looking for partners to launch the project. Expected cost of the project is US$26 million. 17 Real Estate National Housing and National Housing and Construction Corporation is a parastatal body Development Construction Ltd established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 where government of Uganda owns 100%. With the changing business environment, the corporation has changed its role from that of building and managing estate to that of building and selling. The Corporation is worth US$ 40 million in the terms of assets net worth and it is profitable. The company is therefore looking for a strategic investor for cooperation in its expansion programme. NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY 18 Rehabilitation of Kasambya Group, Kasambya The objective of the Masaka Fruit Project is to establish a significant sized Fruit Juice Factory Processors Ltd production unit, using the available raw materials to create export oriented in Masaka. business model by adding enough value to make a profitable and viable business. The foreign partner is expected to supply technology, access to important market players and some investment capital. At present the existing juice factory is idle. When the factory was bought from Masaka Cooperative Union it was named Masaka Fruit Processing Ltd and because of old equipment, the promoters feel that there is need to up grade the technical department of the project for efficient quality production. 19 Lime Manufacture Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd. is looking for lime extraction equipment as well as a partner for their project for the production of high quality lime. The lime will be used for construction, as calcium based agricultural fertilizers and animal stock feed. The project site covers an area of about 10 acres in Busanza village, near River Kaku in Southwestern Uganda. The company owns a limestone mine with substantial limestone deposits. Presently the company is crudely producing lime using a modern vertical kiln but the mining, hydration, sieving and bagging of the lime is done manually. This renders the process very slow. The aim of the project is to mechanize these processes in order to produce more quantities in a shorter time. The company has supplied lime to major road constructors such as Sterling, ROKO construction and Honest Construction Company. Many other construction companies have expressed desire to be supplied but due to the low volumes demand is not always met. The company is seeking for a joint venture/ long-term financing/ equipment purchase in order to install the lime plant and a 3 -10 kW power turbine for generation of own electricity for the kiln and balance of power will be supplied to the national power grid. Expected project cost is estimated at US$2.1 million. 20 Mini-Cement Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd Bunyonyi Safaris Ltd., a Ugandan company is seeking for price quotations Manufacturing for both a 50-100 tons per day mini cement plant and a 3-10 kW hydro- electric power turbine for its proposed cement production project in South Western Uganda. The company owns a limestone mine with substantial limestone deposits. The aim of the project is to produce cement and therefore requires the technology to produce and bag cement. The company is interested in a mini cement plant as well as a mini hydro power plant. There are waterfalls at River Kaku where the power turbine will be NO. A strategic investor is also being sought. Expected project cost is US$1.3 million. 21 Igara Tea Igara Tea Company This factory was financed by the EU and was privatized in 1995.It produces Growers Ltd black made tea for exports with a realised turnover of over US$ 2.5 millions in 2002. The sales are managed by UTDA (Uganda Tea Development Agency Ltd.) with the company having two main activities: training farmers for a standardized production and transformation of green tea leaves. The factory is working at full capacity at the moment and now seeks for a partner for its expansion programme to up grade the technical department to increase its throughput as well as market penetration in Europe and Asia. Currently the company employs 250 people and plans to invest additional US$100,000 for its expansion programme. 22 Dairy Processing Bushenyi Dairy Industry Bushenyi district is one of the biggest milk producers in Uganda. The Coop Society Ltd Cooperative Society currently deals in milk collection but has problems with Land O’Lakes Inc. milk in period of glut, hence the need to process milk to increase it shelf life while marketing. The plan is to pasteurize and pack milk which some can be exported to neighboring countries like Rwanda and Congo where there is high demand. This Society is assisted by Land O’Lakes, which helps it in farming and technical advice with milk processing. The Society is seeking for partnership support to conduct marketing survey, a feasibility study, equipment purchase and technical know-how. The proposed investment is estimated at US$1.4 million. 23 Organic Foods Amfri Farms Ltd The company produces and exports certified organic dried and fresh fruits Processing and and vegetables (Swiss IMO certified). The company started in 1990 under Exports the name Suntrade and Consulting; in 1998 it was incorporated into a bigger one named Amfri farms Ltd. The total tonnage of fruits and vegetables exported in 2001 was about 295 tons for a turnover around 295 000 dollars. The quality of the products is very high and sells them across Europe already. They need new market in European countries, expert in agro-processing to advice them on equipment, installation and technology while conscious of the organic niche market. NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY 24 Fruits and Veges Jackson’s (U) Ltd This company was founded in 1989 by Mr. Kavuma who is also the current processing and President of the Federation of associations of Uganda exporters. This Exports company produces and exports fruits and vegetables to Europe and Middle East. In additional, the company indirectly employs contract farmers who are grouped in 7 units of 15 farmers in each group. Today, their main trader is based in Holland. This company needs equipment purchase (pack house), technical help and know-how. Directly, the company employs 20 people. 25 Fruits and Veges Flona Commodities Ltd This company started operations in 1997, by exporting fresh vegetables and processing and fruits. Flona’s main export is exclusively targeting the European and Far East Exports markets. The company works with the rural farmers (with emphasis on the woman) to actively participate in increased production of horticultural produce for export market. The company needs a joint-venture partner, a technical expertise and a term-loan. Currently, the company employs 15 people directly and plans to invest additional US$30,000 in its expansion project of establishing a cooling and sorting centre for fruits and vegetables. 26 Internet Platform Business Information & BIC Resource centre is an internet project established in a rural district of Communication Resource Kisoro. The mission of the project is to bring social benefit of ICT to rural Centre (BIC) population and reap potential economic benefits for rural development. This project is based on a telecenter model; it aims at promoting utilisation of business information, communication and monitoring services, information capture and storage retrieval. They need equipment purchase, a technology transfer (software and related training), and a grant to incorporate social benefits to the project. The company wants to use the ICT as a platform for market place as well as to improve the delivery and monitoring of health services in the country. 27 Improvement in Victoria Commercial Victoria Commercial Enterprises Ltd. is an export company dealing in fruits handling of Enterprises Ltd and vegetables destined for Europe. This company sells most of its products horticultural to the UK and the Netherlands with a turnover around 100 000 dollars in products for 2002. The promoters want to expand their activities by exporting to other exports European countries. They need to establish a pack house for handling of (Establishing a fresh products for exports; technical help (quality control) and a joint- pack house) venture in processing, packaging and distribution in Europe and Asia. The company currently employs 37 people full time and works with over 200 farmers to produce and collect the produce for exports. 29 Seed NASECO (1996) Ltd This company was a project from the Belgian Survival Fund, partnership multiplication and ACT (NGO: Agency for Technical Cooperation) and Hoima Catholic Diocese. distribution Their main activity is seed multiplication and sells around Africa (Sudan, Kenya, Congo) with a turnover of around US$150,000 in 2002. In October 2002, a business plan will be available done by a consultant from INCOFIN. The company, which is in contact with PAU semence of France, needs a joint-venture and a marketing partner. The expected investment outlay is in the region of US$150,000-250,000. 30 Leather goods Training Common Facility This training center is supported by UNIDO and the Austrian government. production and Centre (TCFC) TCFC is basically on training and produce shoes and leather goods (turnover training around US$50,000 dollars in 2002). Current investment is about US$100,000 with 20 people employed directly. 31 Organic farming NOGAMU NOGAMU was founded in January 2001 during an open meeting of Ugandan and training of organic sector stakeholders. It is registered as an NGO and is operated as a farmers membership controlled association. The objectives are 4 major focus areas: . Standardization . Training farmers to enter in organic products . Marketing: Promote organic products in Uganda . Networking and lobbying

They need a technology transfer and an expertise from an Asian consultant 32 Pyrethrum Agro Management (U) Ltd The commercial operations of the business started in 1997 and it involves farming and growing and processing pyrethrum into crude extract. Pyrethrum extract processing contains pyrethrins. It is a natural, non-toxic bio degradable insecticide with many applications. In 2001, the company processed 110 tons of dry flowers NO. In 2002, the company planted 2 000 acres, dry flowers production was 250 tons; extract production was 11 tons which generated over US$1.2 million. The company’s extract has a nominal 40% pyrethrin content compared to 25% offered by most suppliers worldwide. The company currently sells wholly to the USA but keen to diversify its market to EU as well as seeking for strategic partners in general. 33 Production of wet Africa General Merchants (U) Africa General Merchants (U) Ltd is planning to set up a Wet Blue Leather blue leather from Ltd processing Tannery in the year 2004. The promoter, Mr. J.B Sempagala hides and skins holds B.A Hon. Degree in Economics, M.B.A (Marketing option) and has held managerial positions for over two decades in the private sector. He has also managed a family business for more than 10 years in livestock farming and a slaughterhouse. Sales from current business are about US$100,000 with an employment of 20 people. The proposed project is to produce wet blue leather for exports with an initial capacity of 400 hides per day generating annual sales of US$1.5 million. The estimated investment cost is expected to be US$3.3 million. 34 Internet Platform UBINET UBIN is a unique commercial enterprise developed with technical assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to maximise synergy and ensure profitable public/private sector cooperation. UBIN provides Business Information Solutions and other value added services to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Uganda using ICT to assist them to achieve their Marketing, Production, Technology and Financial development objectives.

UBIN provides commercial demand-driven services for MSMEs in Uganda in three important business areas: business information solutions, ICT & entrepreneurial training and Internet technology based solutions. Later this year, with support from the Austrian government, UBIN will extend its services in Phase 2 to the rural areas by establishing eight (8) pilot District Business Resource Centres (DBRCs).

UBIN is set up as private limited liability company with shareholders from public and private sectors. The present shareholders of UBIN are Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and Uganda Coffee Development Authority NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY (UCDA). 35 Health & Tourism RUKARARWE Health Centre This is an integrated rural development project, which has components of health and tourism. Currently, it is developing and researching on traditional medicine with official labeling and implantation of a new packaging unit (capsule unit). The tourism component although promising, its actual development is planned for the next phase of the project. The is very promising whereby in 2002, Centre received over 20,000 visitors from Uganda and far afield. The project needs equity and technology, management of research and other development aspects. 36 Fruits and London Fruits and Annual total current sales of the company are US$110,000 and the market Vegetables Vegetables for the fresh fruits and vegetables are readily available in Europe. However, with the growing tastes and high quality expected from the export market, the company plans to acquire better facilities and equipment for handling of the fresh products. Foreign participation is also entertained if this comes with equipment, market penetration and any form of expertise or capital. 37 Fruits and Lusaka Growers The company was established in 1992 and deals in exports of fruits and vegetables vegetables. Currently the company employs 30 people with annual turnover of US$788,000. So far over US$370,000 has been invested in the project. With good market prospects in Europe and the Middle East, the company would like to upgrade its production systems including equipment both at farm and post harvest handling levels. A strategic investor is being sought to bring the necessary improvement facilities including equipment and capital. 38 Horticultural Mukono Commercial The project is located in Mukono district and has so far invested US$ Production Farmers Cooperative Society 560,000 and is growing okra, tomatoes, passion fruits and chilies. These Ltd are cooperative farmers who are expanding their operations, looking for market access, equipment purchase and technology transfer. The company began its operations in 2001 and the annual sales are now in excess of US$200,000 and employ 45 people. 39 Modern Abattoir United Slaughter House Ltd The company has completed a plan for construction of an abattoir to slaughter 200 cattle, 180 sheep/goats and 2000 chicken per day for export and domestic market. The promoters have been individually involved in NO. PROJECT TITLE SPONSOR PROJECT SUMMARY cattle and goat trade, local abattoirs and butcheries for many years. The company produces terry towels, baby napkins and cotton buds, threads and garments. The company aims at import substitutions and exports to the regional market & international markets with a capacity to manufacture 250,000 terry towels, 800,000 baby napkins to meet some of the estimated annual demand of 990,000 and 1,600,000 units respectively. The company is looking to strategic investor with expertise in the industry for adequate utilization of the installed capacity. 41 Organic farming Lango Organic Farming The company is dealing in certified organic cotton, cereals and legumes Promotion (seeds). Currently, most of these items are exported to Europe unprocessed. The company plans to add value to the production process and would therefore require the technical knowledge of a prospective strategic partner. Additional capital is also required for the improvement and expansion programme of the company. 42 Cotton and edible Millennium Cotton Products The company was established in 2002 and already total current sales are in oil extraction excess of US$250,000 per annum and with a planned investment of US$5 million. The company is growing on a commercial basis, using modern farming methods where seed cotton is ginned into lint for exports. At a latter stage, the company is to install a cotton oil expeller to extract unrefined oil. Cotton is one of the strategic intervention sectors government is encouraging. A strategic investor is being sought and the appropriate technology for oil extraction. 43 Production of Zinunula Coffee Limited This is an old company established over 3 decades ago and is engaged in instant coffee coffee business. The company would like to add value to Uganda’s coffee by manufacturing instant coffee. The total annual current sales are US$5 million. Breeding equipment, expertise and capital are required for the project from reliable sources. 45 Production of Maganjo Grain Millers Ltd Maganjo Grain Millers was established in 1984 and is engaged in grain/food breakfast cereals processing with current turnover of US$110,000 per annum. The company & short time has invested over US$110,000 in its current establishment and looks foods, marcrones forward to introduce new product lines within the current family of products which include: maize flour, millet flour, soya millet flour; baby porridge and nutri bread. The company now wants to diversify its product line but to start with breakfast cereals and short time foods, macrons, etc. The local promoter is seeking for foreign participation with the aim to garner expertise and capital for equipment purchase.
