Year 2

This term Year 2 will be searching for the GOLDEN TICKET!!!

Our second topic is called Just Peachy. The children will learn about the most famous author of all times – Roald Dahl. They will have a chance to experience some of his most amazing novels – James and the Giant Peach, The Twits and of course, everybody’s favorite – Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Through this topic, we will be taking on the role of artists, learning how the most amazing cartoonist Quentin Blacke created the images of the characters in Roald Dahl’s books and having a go at creating our very own.

As many of Roald Dahl’s characters discovered to their peril, food is very important and unfortunately we sometimes eat food which is not so good for us. So, we will be spending this term, finding out just which food types are best, where the food has come from and what our body needs. Of course, just like on the peach, humans are not the only thing on our world, so we are going to be finding out about those small creatures – Miss Spider, caterpillar, ladybird, earthworm and of course the Green Grasshopper.

As we all know, Year 2 have their own talents, just like Roald Dahl, so this term we will be having our chance to step into the spot light by being part of the South Tyneside Music festival – watch out the X-Factor, you have competition!! Alongside Roald Dahl’s world, we will also be learning more about the world which we live in. We shall be discovering how the weather we have moves and also what our world looks like from the air – maybe even from the peach!

Now, to truly experience the world of Roald Dahl, we might need to step outside the safety of our classroom and take a ride on a peach or follow the footsteps of Charlie to reach that golden ticket. So if you come to the Year 2 and we are not in, you might find us at the Cinema, experiencing the amazing movies made of Roald Dahl’s books, or at seven stories discovering how to become an illustrator. Of course we will also need to spend some time with the little creatures we are learning about, so we may also need to go to the Washington Wetlands Centre for a spot of ‘hands on’ science work. I am sure after reading this you can’t wait to get through the Christmas holidays and back to school!
