MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

OF THE CITY OF ST. MARTINVILLE, LOUISIANA

HELD ON THE 18TH DAY OF APRIL, 2016.

The Mayor and City Council of the City of St. Martinville, Louisiana met in Regular Session on the 18th day of April, 2016 at City Hall, their regular meeting place, pursuant to the call of the Mayor.

THERE were present: Thomas Nelson, Mayor Mike Fuselier, Councilman Craig Prosper, Councilman Debra Landry, Councilwoman Ike Robertson, Councilman Allan L. Durand, City Attorney

THERE were absent: Dennis Williams, Councilman

Mayor Thomas Nelson presiding, called the meeting to order.

Upon motion of Debra Landry duly seconded by Ike Robertson and unanimously carried that the minutes of the regular meeting held April 4, 2016 hereby be approved as written and prepared for publication in the Teche News, the Official Journal of the City of St. Martinville.

Upon motion of Ike Robertson duly seconded by Debra Landry and unanimously carried that the bills to be paid by the City Finance Committee hereby be approved for payment.

Upon motion of Mike Fuselier duly seconded by Craig Prosper and unanimously carried that the National Day of Prayer be added to the agenda of this meeting.

Upon request of Calysta Camacho, it was moved by Mike Fuselier and unanimously

City Council meeting 04-18-16 seconded to support Ms. Camacho in her endeavor to participate in a contest called Faces of Main Street to promote our city and local businesses. Ms. Camacho’s goal is to interview business owners, take pictures of their business and allow the owners to tell their story. Businesses that are featured on the Faces of Main Street receive free advertising on the national website www.facesofmainstreet.com.

The request made by Al Greig to purchase the Old Ice House located at the corner of East Madison Street and New Market Street from the City of St. Martinville was tabled until a master plan is created for the festival grounds.

Upon motion of Craig Prosper and unanimously seconded that a donation of not more than $1,000.00 be donated to hold a Summer Kick Off Fun Day to be held in conjunction with Louisiana Elite Youth Tigers Football Organization on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Magnolia Park.

Upon recommendation of Superintendent Kirk Lasseigne it was moved by Craig Prosper duly seconded by Debra Landry and unanimously carried that Frank Sonnier be hired as Master Carpenter with a pay grade 111.

Upon motion of Mike Fuselier duly seconded by Debra Landry and unanimously carried that Rachael Bonhomme be hired as a part-time recreation laborer on an as needed basis, with a pay grade of 101.

Upon recommendation of Chief Calder Hebert, it was moved by Craig Prosper duly seconded by Debra Landry and unanimously carried that Stephanie Guidry be hired as a dispatcher with a pay grade of 103.

Upon recommendation of Chief Calder Hebert it was moved by Mike Fuselier duly seconded by Ike Robertson and unanimously carried that Craig Gregory II and Brandy Sickey be hired as Reserve Officers at a rate of pay of $10.00 per hour.

Upon motion of Craig Prosper duly seconded by Mike Fuselier that Calder Hebert’s employment status be changed from Substitute Police Chief to Permanent Police Chief.

City Council meeting 04-18-16 A substitute motion was made by Debra Landry to appoint Lance Laviolette as permanent Police Chief.

Mrs. Landry’s motion failed due to a lack of a second.

Mr. Prosper’s motion being submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was: YEAS: M.Fuselier, C.Prosper, I.Robertson NAYS: D.Landry ABSENT: D.Williams

Councilman Mike Fuselier informed the public that the 3rd Annual Prayer Day Luncheon will be held Thursday, May 5th at the St. Martin Sheriff Training Facility. A prayer service will also be held on Thursday, May 5th on the St. Martin Parish Courthouse steps beginning at 6:30 pm. In the event of inclement weather the evening service will be moved to the City Council Chambers.

There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Council, Mayor

Thomas Nelson adjourned the meeting upon motion of Craig Prosper duly seconded by Mike

Fuselier.
