Nepal Ireland Society National Appeal for Relief

PRESS RELEASE

NEPAL IRELAND SOCIETY NATIONAL APPEAL FOR RELIEF

The Nepal Ireland Society is a Not for Profit Organisation which was founded in 2000 with the objective to provide a common platform for the Nepalese Community living in Ireland. Nepalese Ambassadors to the UK and Ireland have been and are currently Patrons of the Society. The NIS is run by a committee of dedicated Nepalese and Irish people who’s mission is to disseminate information relating to Nepal, to support Irish Charites woking in Nepal and to forge and strengthen relationships between Ireland and Nepal.

Nepal Ireland Society has organised successful events since its foundation, the most recent being a Trekking & Mountaineering Fair last May and two extremely successful Nepal Days in 2013 and 2014, held at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park.

As a result of the devastating earthquake which hit Nepal on 25th April, the NIS has launched an appeal for funds to help the victims of the tragedy. We have set up a charity page on https://www.idonate.ie/nepalrelieffund where people may donate online. Alternatively they can donate directly to a designated NIS bank account quoting the reference DONATE.

Funds raised will be directed towards the most urgent needs on the ground in Kathmandu and further afield in the outlying and rural villages. This will be enabled through direct contact with our people and contacts in Nepal. Immediate needs such as food, clean drinking water and medical supplies will be a priority followed by other items such as emergency shelters and blankets, clothing, equipment and sanitation.

This is a time for generosity in the face of deep tragedy on the ground, in one of the poorest countries in the world, from which it will take years to recover. It has affected many and numbers are growing on an hourly basis as news is coming in from remote areas. We appeal to the well known generosity and compassion of the Irish people to contribute as much as they can afford, to help NIS make a difference in this horrific time of crisis in Nepal
