Dear Superintendents:

We are once again providing the opportunity for schools to apply for the Health Informatics program sponsored through a grant from the Race to the Top grant funds. OACTS applied for and received the grant to develop a program that was challenging and engaging to students and would prepare them for the new world of work. An OACTS steering committee decided health informatics was a program that met those criteria and we contracted with the Southern Regional Education Board to assist with the development of the curriculum.

The curriculum consists of four courses. All four courses are currently being piloted, revised and put into a new prototype making it easy for teachers and students to understand the projects and assignments. We are particularly interested in new pilots that are satellites to the career center. A satellite might teach Health Informatics courses one and two and then attend the career center in a health sciences program. We are also interested in piloting the program as an integral part of a health academy.

If you are interested in applying for the program for the 2014-15 school year please read the new brochure about the program’s four courses and complete the attached RFP. The RFP is fairly short and is due March 15, 2014. Also attached is a sheet indicating the requirements for the project and assistance that your district will receive as part of the project.

Thanks again for your support of our work with this new curriculum. It has been a challenge identifying appropriate projects, the academics involved, the standards to be met, and developing the assessment items. We could not have completed the project without your assistance in sending teachers to many meetings and working on the projects while continuing their teaching duties at your schools.

Thanks!

Tom
