The Armory Art Center is seeking interns for our Summer Youth Programs from June 8th-August 14th. The Summer Program is an annual program attended by over 700 students each summer and is designed to offer hands-on studio activities and learning experiences for area youth. It is divided into four programs and each are described below:

JumpstART—K-2nd grade

Give your child the opportunity to jump into the arts this summer as they are guided through various activities in the visual arts such as drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture and ceramics. Connections to music, dance and drama will be incorporated throughout the day to enhance their total arts experience.

2 Interns needed: A- 8am-2pm B- 2pm-5pm

Adventures in ART—3rd-5th grade

Send your young artist on an adventure in the visual arts. While studying the past and present works of the world’s diversified arts and cultures, students will rotate among four studio areas daily, completing creative projects in painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture and more.

2 interns needed for each session: A- 8am-2pm B- 2pm-5pm

Rockin Studio— 6th-8th grade

Students are given the opportunity to work with guest artists during 1 and 2-week long intensive studio workshops in a variety of areas in the visual arts. Daily activities will include studio talks and demonstrations which compliment large blocks of hands-on studio time. Students will be guided towards developing unique projects of their own conception to apply the concepts and processes they are learning throughout the workshop.

1 intern needed for each session: A- 8am-2pm B- 2pm-5pm

Summer ARTshops for Teens—9-12th grade

Students are given the opportunity to work with guest artists during 1 and 2-week long intensive studio workshops in a variety of areas in the visual arts. Daily activities will include studio talks and demonstrations that compliment large blocks of hands-on studio time. Students will be guided towards developing unique projects of their own conception to apply the concepts and processes they are learning throughout the workshop.

1 intern needed for each session: A- 8am-2pm B- 2pm-5pm

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 Assist instructor and children with art activity, supervision and discipline in studios  Supervise and manage children during arrival, lunch/snack time, bathroom visits, studio time, recreational time and dismissal  Prepare and manage art materials and supplies for art activities—including set-up and clean-up  Manage parent registration during arrival and dismissal. Interns will be paid $6.50/hour.Absences will be recorded on a daily basis and subtracted from that week’s payment. Payment will be consistent in schedule with regular payroll periods for Armory employees. Interns may opt to receive volunteer hours for some of their time.

Applicants may be subject to an interview, if deemed necessary, upon receipt of application. Interns will serve as temporary employees of the Armory, and like all Armory employees, will be outsourced employees of Oasis Outsourcing, and are subject to their employment policies as well as those of the Armory.
