Any work undertaken will be a private arrangement between you and them and Age UK Solihull is not responsible for work carried out by the people included on this list. Age UK Solihull has taken at least two references for each of the trades-people included on this list. We have also ensured to the best of our ability that they have Public Liability Insurance. We do not personally inspect the work they have done. The people on this list are not employed by Age UK Solihull and the charity has no influence on their working arrangements or charges. It is important to get 2 or 3 different written quotes and always get a clear idea of what the cost will be before the commencement of the work. It is always worth checking whether you will be asked to pay a callout charge. Generally you should avoid paying money in advance. Be wary of workmen who call at your house unannounced. If they have highlighted a potential problem, get 2 or 3 quotes from reputable trades-people. Never allow casual callers into your home. If they say they are from the Council or the Water board, Gas or Electricity supplier and you were not expecting them, ask for some identification and check this with the company concerned. Many companies now have schemes for older people whereby you can register your details and use a password to ensure you know the person calling is safe to allow into your home.
