The BBC has moved a significant number of its departments to MediaCityUK, Salford Quays. As part of the BBC’s commitment to the local economy and young people, we are creating a number of job opportunities for 16-19 year olds as BBC Young Ambassadors.

For the BBC, our move to MediaCityUK is an opportunity to transform the way we operate. It’s our chance to reassess everything we do - how we work with each other and how we link with our audiences, local com- munities and the wider media world.

Our Salford Quays complex reflects this new thinking. The buildings have been designed to provide a creative and inspirational environment - one where you’ll have the freedom and equipment you need to produce brilliant work.

However, the one thing that won’t change is our commitment to diversity. We’ll continue to be a place where people’s differences are recognised and valued. We’ll also keep on making sure our buildings are a positive and wel- coming environment for everyone who works or visits here.

Balfour Beatty Workplace is the service delivery partner of BBC North and their primary goal is to provide a world class service that will support a cre- ative and customer focussed working environment. Balfour Beatty matches the customer service aspirations of the BBC and will contribute to the BBC’s goal of welcoming the public to its facilities. The image, presentation and in- terpersonal skills of all our teams will provide an exceptional customer and visitor experience. The goal of providing a World Class Service is the common vein that runs through all of the Departments under the remit of Balfour Beatty Workplace and BBC Workplace.

Is this role for you? This role has been designed as a first job, aimed at local 16-19 year olds, who may have limited or no experience of the world of work. The kind of person you are and your attitude to work is much more important to us than your knowledge, experience or qualifications.

Through this job, each Young Ambassador will develop a range of skills that will be valuable for their CV and for them in their future. They will increase their experience and confidence of working with others, dealing with mem- bers of the public and understanding how large buildings are managed. These skills can be used in a number of jobs and in particular roles that re- quire customer service knowledge. You will also have the opportunity to gain either Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications in Customer Service.

What happens when I finish working for the BBC? You could work in this role for up to 6 months. We hope that you will have had an inspiring experience and that you will aspire to progress further, building on the foundation of your time with us. You may want to work in another customer service or facilities management role with another com- pany. Or you may want to study for higher qualifications. We will help you to think about your next steps when your time with us is coming to an end.
