Consumer and Family Science Department Ayala High School Class Expectations and Outline Mrs. Mehaffie Clothing & Textiles I and II

Course Description: This course is designed to introduce and develop basic knowledge and skills in evaluating clothing needs, construction techniques, career planning, and personal choices as a consumer. This course will help students develop skills in the use of sewing equipment, knowledge of commercial patterns and use, and to apply basic sewing skills related to personal choices.

Homework Expectations: All work is to be completed in class. If a student falls behind with project construction, lunch and after school time may be arranged with the teacher in order to catch up.

Assignments Will Include: 1. worksheets, textbook study, note-taking, written reports and vocabulary. 2. tests and quizzes 3. notebook and assignment calendar 4. clothing projects (4-5) a semester 5. attendance

Assignment Expectations: 1. Please remember to write in complete sentences with blue or black ink pen. 2. Neatness counts! Take pride in your work and do your best. Do not expect full credit for messy work. This includes clothing projects. 3. All assignments should be turned in on time. Late assignments will be marked down accordingly. 4. Make-up work should be turned in as soon as possible. Always check the assignment calendar when absent. It is the student's responsibility to make up work or tests in a timely manner. Arrangements are the student's responsibility.

Notebooks: 1. Throughout the semester students will be expected to keep all work and assignments in a notebook. 2. This notebook should be at least a 2" three ring binder. 3. It is the student's responsibility to collect and store their work and projects in their folders. Periodically the class will review what should be in their notebooks. 4. Folders will be kept in class and stored in the students personal tote bin. 5. The Folder will be collected several times throughout the semester and graded, so it is to the student's benefit to stay organized. Classroom Behavior: 1. Absolutely no cell phones or ear buds in class. These items will be taken away and may be picked up in the office by a parent at the end of the day (see school policy). 2. The use of inappropriate language will not be tolerated. This includes degrading or mean language. Positive and uplifting communication will be rewarded. 3. Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings. See school policy for tardies. 4. No gum, food, drinks, or make-up in class. You work hard on these projects and we do not want any accidents.

Consequences: 1. A verbal warning will be given one time. 2. A detention will be issued, to be served in one weeks time. 3. An e-mail or call home to notify parents of the problem. 4. A referral to the vice principal or counselor's office. One referral will result in a U or unsatisfactory grade.

Grading: 1. Extra credit projects may be assigned to the entire class, but not to be used as a make-up for missed projects. 2. Grading structure: (approximately) 33% written work (chapter questions, worksheets and notebooks) 33% tests and quizzes 34% projects and lab assignments 3. The grade of "C-" or "D" will result in a needs improvement or "N" grade for effort. The grade of "D" or "F" will result in an unsatisfactory or "U" grade in effort. 4. Attendance is important! All projects are worked on in class only. If you are not here assignments may not be completed.

Please fill in the following lines. DO NOT CUT. You will be placing this paper in your notebooks as your #1 entry.

My teacher has discussed the following expectations with me. I am responsible for my own actions and I know what consequences to expect if I choose not to follow these classroom rules. Please, if you are having a problem that is affecting you or your performance in this class, let me know as soon as possible. Do not let a small pimple become a giant sore.
