- Mission The Library, Documentation and Archives Service offers a wide range of services and provides users with a full updated collection on vocational and educational training accessible on-line. The overall mission is stated in “"Regulation (EEC) No 337/75 of the Council of 10 February 1975 establishing a European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training, Article 2, § 2: The main tasks of the centre shall be: to compile selected documentation relating in particular to the present situation, the latest developments and research in the relevant fields, and to matters of vocational training structure; …”

The Library’s principal objective is: to select, acquire, process and disseminate a wide range of printed and electronic materials relevant to its target groups.

The Library information strategy is based on a decentralised approach reflected in the Network of Reference and Expertise with representatives from the 15 EU Member States plus Norway and Iceland.

We received request from UNMIK to have it translated in Serbo-Croatian, in Kosovar and in Czech.  The Network of Reference and Expertise (ReferNet) is now 100 % operational: it is composed of national consortia of key organisations in the field of vocational and educational training in each EU Member State, Norway and Iceland and now in the

10 new Future Member States. The main aim is to collect structured and comparable information at European level (see: http://www.cedefop.eu.int/directory.asp?refernet)  The "Study for a unified system for managing information from the Refer network" was concluded and now we are looking at the selected “integration tools” which should help us to improve our overall workflow and project management. Further demonstrations of the solutions will take place in May: mySap Portal and LiveLink. Main results of the study could be made available to Eurolib members.  A new version of the cataloguing and indexing manual was completed, comprising all internal procedures (see Eurolib repository).  In the framework of the agreement signed with the European University Institute for Cedefop historical archives, the Centre was the first EU agency to deposit its historical archives. The official ceremony took place on 28th October 2002 at the Historical Archives of the European Communities, Florence. A publication is foreseen in the next months.  Migration of our library automation software ALEPH (current version 12.2) to the latest production release (14.2.6) should be concluded by end of June 2003.  Improvement, further developments and proposed enhancements of Eurolib web site: see detailed report by N. Baziotis.  Finalising of procedures guidelines to comply with ISO9001 for a TQMS (Total Quality Management System), in order to achieve the final certification by Summer 2003.
