HOW TO FORM A WALK-A-THON TEAM

Why be a team? By assembling a team, you not only raise pledges for the Walk-a-thon through your own friends, but your friends can ask their friends for donations too! More donations allow us to help more at- risk seniors remain independent. All contributions are tax-deductible.

In addition, the Walk-a-thon is a nice way to promote your group and have fun with your friends walking and listening to great music! We make it easy for you to create a team and raise money. And on the day of the walk, we meet in a wonderful setting, feed you and your team pizza and give out some serious and hilarious prizes.

How do we help you?  Provide a contact if you have questions regarding your team: call or email NWPP  Provide team pledge cards for members to collect donations  Give you information about NWPP that tells how donations are used.  Sample letter/email to make it easier to solicit sponsors.  Give you an experience that will make you feel good for a long time!

“ Tips for Creating Teams” – How can I entice my friends to join my team?  Build a “Team of Twenty” of work acquaintances and friends who commit to raising at least $100 each, either by writing a check for that amount or asking their friends to donate.  Ask members of your social groups, book clubs, church, hobby groups to join with you to form a team.  If you work for a large company, form more than one team and have them compete against one another.  Supply your friends with information about the Northwest Pilot Project and let them know how much their help will do for those in need. Promise them a nice walk, pizza and fun.

What do team captains do?  Come up with a team name  Recruit and encourage individuals to raise pledges  Write TEAM name at the top of your Sponsor Sheets  Make sure each team member has a pledge sheet. Members will not receive a foot to record laps without a pledge sheet.

Prizes, Pizza and Fun: All participants are encouraged to stay after the walk to enjoy pizza and our awards ceremony. Team prizes will be awarded for the most money raised. (Team members are not eligible for individual walker prizes). See Prizes for more information.

Important Note: NWPP will bill your sponsors after the Walk-a-thon; but we encourage walkers to collect any flat amounts in advance and bring them with your pledge card to the Walk-a-thon.
