How to Get to the Centre of Oslo and to the National Library

HOW TO GET TO THE CENTRE OF OSLO AND TO THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

The quickest, but also the most expensive way, to get to the centre of Oslo is by the airport train. The price is around 21 EURO for a one-way ticket. The airport train leaves every 10 minutes, but has different end stations. If you have chosen an hotel close to the National Library, you should take the train that goes to Drammen and get off at the station called Nationaltheatret (National Theatre) and not at the Oslo Central Station. You can only travel with the airport train if you have bought the correct ticket for the airport train. Children up to the age of 15 travelling with an adult travel free of charge on the airport train. Link to airport train’s website: http://www.flytoget.no/eng/

There are also other local trains you can take to get to centre of Oslo, mainly the local train L12 from Eidsvoll to Kongsberg or the regional train R10 from Lillehammer to Skien. You can check the timetables for these trains by the link below. The station you wish to type in to leave from is Oslo Lufthavn (Oslo airport) and the station you wish to type in to get off at is Oslo S (Oslo Central Station) or Nationaltheatret (National Theatre). The National Library (Nasjonalbiblioteket) is located on the central west side of Oslo and is within easy walking distance from the Nationaltheateret station (train and subway) in the centre of the city. Just follow Henrik Ibsens street (also called Drammensveien) west from the station (past the Royal Palace and its gardens on your right and the Ibsen Museum on your left) until you reach Solli plass, where the Library is a large reddish stone building on your left-hand side. There is a park right across the street from the library building, the Hydroparken. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to walk from the Nationaltheatret station to the National Library.

From the Nationaltheateret station you may also take buses 30 to Bygdøy and 31 to Snarøya, and trams 12 to Majorstuen and 13 to Jahr. Get off at Solli plass. The street address for the National Library is Henrik Ibsens gate 110. It costs around 6 EURO to buy a bus or tram ticket on board, so the best thing is to buy a travelcard (Reisekort) at a kiosk or a 7 Eleven if you think you will need to travel by public transport.
