Description of Rating Scale

1. The purpose of this rating scale is to measure an athlete’s physical strengths to compete in the NFL. Specifically an athlete’s ability to run a 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, and broad jump.

2. This rating scale is designed for college football players trying to enter the NFL. It is specifically aimed at male, college football players transitioning from their junior to senior year in the summer, at the DI, DII, and DIII level.

3. The rating scale is a great tool to measure an athlete’s skill level and what they need to improve upon. Some football players will be invited to a combine from the NFL and they will be tested on these skills in front of NFL coaches. It is important that these players excel at the drills in order to get signed to a NFL team.

4. The skills that will be evaluated in the rating scale are 40-yard dash times, bench press, vertical jump, and broad jump. These skills are important to be measured because they are all drills that are apart of the NFL combine.

5. The scale ranges from 0-5. 0-1 meaning needs improvement; 2-3 meaning needs some improvement; 4-5 meaning excellent.

6. The test administrator would need to know what to look for in each drill. For bench press, the administrator needs to look for how many times that athlete can bench press 225 pounds. For the vertical jump, they need look for how far up they can jump. For the broad jump, they need to look for how far they can jump in front of them. For the 40- yard dash, the administrator needs to look at how fast that athlete sprints 40 yards. The administrator needs to measure how well each athlete performed each drill.

7. The rating scale would be used to rate each athlete’s ability to successfully complete each drill and show them what they need to improve upon in each drill. This can help them become successful when entering the NFL combine. Any player below a 4 will need to work to improve their skill until they can reach a 4 or better. This will be a formative evaluation because this test judges players abilities to successfully complete drills. Rating Scale of Combine Drills

1 Time 5.0-5.1 6-10 reps 1.0-10.0 inches 7.0-7.11 ft. 0 Any time > 5.1 0-5 reps 0 inches 6.11 ft. and below

This scale is used to measure college football player’s strengths and weaknesses in successfully competing in combine drills. This scale can be used to improve players ability to successfully complete these drills and prepare them for the NFL combine.
