MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE SAARF TELEVISION AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT COUNCIL HELD ON THURSDAY 25 JUNE 2009 AT 14h30 AT THE SAARF OFFICES, 54 QUEENS ROAD, BRYANSTON

1. PRESENT:

2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 6 May 2009 and 8 June 2009

The minutes of the meeting of 6 May 2009 and 8 June 2009 were approved and signed by the chair.

3. FINALISING OF THE AGENDA

The agenda was agreed. Some points were included under AOB.

4. TV SECTION ON AMPS

At the previous TAMS Council the AMPS contractor arrived with draft 1 of the “TV Section” on AMPS and it was discussed at the TAMS Council. All inputs were added and draft 2 of the “TV Section” on AMPS was e-mailed to the TAMS Council. Some suggested changes were e-mailed back to SAARF. Where these were small, they were done. If they were big, they will be looked at for the AMPS “TV Section” for 2010A. Attached find the final AMPS “TV section” that is in field for 2009B currently.

Changes made for 2009B on delivery mechanism questions will be piloted to make sure they are correct for 2010A as there was no time to pilot them before 2009B went into field. SAARF awaiting costs from Nielsen for this pilot.

Adding colour TV logos as prompts to 2010A was also discussed. Attached please find some examples of what it would look like as we need to discuss it at the next TAMS Council meeting.

5. PANEL STATUS AND VIEWING TRENDS

6. UNIVERSE UPDATE

We will move to the new universe update on Monday 3 August 2009. The data for that day will be delayed and released on Tuesday 4 August 2009 as Damir needs to do some checks first.

A sub-committee was also formed to look at the current RIM weighting variables. The following people will be on this sub-committee:

This group will meet for the first time on Thursday 23 July 2009 at 13h00 at SAARF and role players must bring a list of their major tarket markets.

7. AOB

7.1 990 Decoder

Due to software changes from DSTV, several households that have TAMS meters connected to their televisions have been experiencing some technical problems with their TV viewing. Brenda will discuss the way forward regarding this matter with Chris.

7.2 Arianna and Telmar

Both Telmar and Arianna have the same information on their data sets. However the information from IMS differs from these two software houses. Once the technical report is released there will be a new Gold Standard in place and all software suppliers will be given time to comply.

7.3 PVR Viewership and Time-Shifted Viewing

To be put back on agenda.

7.4 ZEE TV

Vishwa from Zee TV stated that the Indian community is important and that we need to look at the Zee TV composition of panel households. The TAMS Council agreed to look at it once there is 12 month AMPS data available in October 2009.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 23 July 2009 at 14:30 at the SAARF offices.
