The workshop will be broken down into 5 different sessions; phonics/phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary and summer reading. The parents will become aware of different reading strategies and skills that could help their son or daughter become more successful as a reader. They will be given the opportunity to ask questions, practice strategies, and connect with other resources to help in the reading journey. At the end of every session they will leave with a variety of activities to work on with their child at home. Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes Parents will use the Visual Ranking Tool to discuss and organize reading activities from most important to least important with helping students become more successful readers.

Assessment Summary Reading Inventory: Parents will fill out a reading inventory about how they feel about reading now and experiences they had with reading in school. Observation: We will share feelings and experiences about how our children are coping with their reading struggles and how we can help them become more successful readers. The teacher will observe the parents role playing using the strategies and activities taught. Observation Journal: The parents will reflect on reading observations they see throughout the school year with their child and reading progress. Wiki Page: The parents will communicate questions, share concerns, reflect on observations, discuss how strategies are working, create feedback on how the session is helping their child’s needs, and get support with other resources. Reading Success Sort: Using the visual ranking tool, parents will rank various reading activities from most successful to least successful. Parent Reading University Evaluation: Parents will participate in an evaluation on how they felt about the five parent reading sessions.
