Central Queensland University - CG15 Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification
Work experience requirement for future graduates to comply with the requirements of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors for future licensing.
The following material, while technically part of the ‘study guide/notes’ for BLSV14012; ‘Building Surveying Work Experience Project’, covers the work experiences of a student from their initial enrolment in the program until their enrolment in the Course, BLSV 14012’ The Course BLSV14012 is the mechanism whereby the accumulated knowledge / experiences gained by student in their professional “working environment”, are presented to CQU .
The documents required by the Course BLSV14012, are as follows Log Book; to document your involvement on building surveying related projects, plus the industry mentor’s assessment of that experience, Seminar; the presentation a 30 minute seminar, on-line, concerning the student’s learning experiences, Workplace Project Report; (to demonstrate and apply your current industry knowledge) based on selected criteria and other minor supporting documentation.
A central component of the verification of this experience is a ‘log book’ that records in a formal manner, the work experience undertaken by a student during their studies. The ‘work experience’ must be logged and authenticated by a suitably qualified superior/mentor /manager on a regular basis. In addition, the experiences gained during a students working period are required to be documented for later presentation in a seminar and for two other reports for BLSV14012. Thus students, when seeking a position in the profession, should advise their potential employers of these requirements and ensure that the organizations are prepared to permit students to log their activities and to have them, the organizations, verify the work undertaken. It is essential that, in both the interests of the student and the organization that these requirements are understood by both parties and confirmed in writing at the time of the student’s appointment.
The following items are attached; a cover letter from CQU describing the desired arrangements, the tabular format of the log books, the level of detail suggested, and the verification documentation required, plus typical descriptions of material to be used in the seminar and the work place reports.
The material in the log books and industry mentor’s assessment (although necessarily identifying projects and participants) are confidential between the student, their employer and their mentor, and other presentations; ie both the seminar and the workplace report are confidential and none of the experiences recorded therein can be related to an employer, a project or any individual.
IMPORTANT; the above dot point re ‘other presentations’ refers to future assessment items in BLSV14012
