Dust Jacket for Outside Reading

Due Date for Book Jacket: Due Wednesday, February 17 Grade: Test grade

 The front of the dust jacket will include the title, author and symbolic illustration.  The front inside flap will provide an overview to immediately and convincingly capture the reader’s interest. It might include a snapshot of the high points of the book and a glimpse of what the reader can expect.  The back inside flap will give you an opportunity to write creative tag-lines for your book. You should attribute your tag lines to characters, real or fictitious, who would have read and enjoyed this book. You may not copy and paste this information.  The back cover is for your original review. This is not a tag line – it’s a critical book review. You might look at some professionally published reviews at http://www.book-review-circle.com (Hint: I have read the reviews for your book on this site as well as other sites. Avoid temptation. ) o A review makes an argument and is mainly commentary, not summary. Consider using the 4-Square format to complete this section. o Your review should include author’s name, title of book, genre, theme, and critical view of how well the author supported his/her purpose for writing the book. This is not an opportunity to say “I think…,” rather, you should write from a third person analytical perspective. o The review should include a one-sentence plot summary of the book – this might take the form of context. o Include any background information about the author that might be important in understanding the book.  Create the jacket from whatever kind of paper you choose. Neatness and effort count!  Create a Works Cited page in MLA format that reflects all sources of information that you used within your project. You must also cite the novel itself. Use www. easybib .com to format your entries, and use http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ for specific guidelines regarding a properly MLA formatted Works Cited page. Please glue the Works Cited page to the inside of your dust jacket. You may decrease the font size on your Works Cited page to fit inside this area.  Dust Jackets are due on Wednesday, February 17. If you are going to be absent your work is due before that date.
