Diary Dilemma

My brother read my diary to all the neighborhood boys. I couldn't believe my eyes! There he stood in front of the swing set reading to them. Heaven only knew what he was reading since their laughter was so loud I couldn't understand a word he was saying.

Filled with anger, I threw open the screen door with such force that all eyes darted toward me. Not a word was uttered as I stomped through the rose garden to where they sat motionless on swings and a trapeze. My little brother was actually trembling, eyes and mouth wide open, as I came to a stop in front of him. Not saying a word, I yanked that diary out of his hands with such force he landed in the dust beneath the teeter-totter.

Clutching the diary with both hands, I whirled around and headed back toward the house. The screen door slammed once again. The shouts of laughter burst onto the porch where I stood. Their voices were more than I could bear. Tears streamed down my face as I began to sob out my hurt. I ran to my bedroom and threw myself across the bed. I will never be as embarrassed as I was that spring afternoon.
