JOB TITLE: Education Convergence Advisor TEAM/PROGRAMME: Thailand Program LOCATION: Bangkok or Mae Sot GRADE: TBC CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

ROLE PURPOSE: Lead in the development and implementation of the education “convergence” agenda on the Thai- Myanmar border with key stakeholders on both sides, so that children, teachers, and education officials are better prepared for eventual departure from the refugee camps and integration into the education systems in their new home communities.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Education Convergence Advisor, working with the education team will:

 Lead the development of an education convergence plan that maps out the pieces of work which will lead to realizing education convergence objectives.  Develop an advocacy platform surrounding education issues on the Thai-Myanmar border  Serve as focal point for all education-related convergence work  Lead in the organizing and facilitating of convergence meetings which bring together key stakeholders on both sides of the border  Advice on education policy issues, both within the camps and in preparation for return  Build capacity of education actors (namely KRCEE and KnED) to help them prepare for transition.  Commission and/or conduct research to build evidence for decision-making on education convergence  Support work on accreditation and recognition of both students and teachers learning  Coordinate closely with Save the Children Myanmar’s education team  Ensure refugee views and interests are taken into consideration throughout the Compre- hensive Education Sector Review (CESR)  Support and advise on both BEST and PREPS education programme implementation to help ensure meeting program objectives.  Support fundraising for Education when required, especially for programs on the Thai- Myanmar border, including development of high quality concept notes and proposals.  Support reporting for BEST and PREPS as required.

Save the Children is a dual mandate organisation and as such the Education Convergence Ad- visor is also expected to support any emergency response work that may occur on the border. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Essential  Skills and experience in the education sector  Research and policy development ability  Event organizing and chairing amidst diverse stakeholders  Experience developing and successfully implementing an advocacy plan  Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders  Experience of senior level representation and negotiation/coalition building  Experience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors  Ability to write clear and well-argued research and policy reports  Excellent communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English  Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy

Desirable  Experience on the Thai-Myanmar border  Language skills in Thai and/or Karen
