Barclays British Universities Tennis Mixed Doubles Championships

Friday 2nd June – Sunday 4th June 2006

Dear Sir / Madam, I cordially invite you to attend the inaugural BUSA National Mixed Doubles Tournament, to be held this June. Here at Glasgow, we believe that the exciting tennis discipline that is Mixed Doubles has been previously overlooked in the BUSA tennis calendar. We have therefore teamed up with BUSA and Barclays to bring to you this new tennis event that will now take place annually.

Venue The tournament will be held at the Next Generation Tennis Centre in Anniesland, Glasgow (directions will be emailed to all participants before the event). This new facility offers 6 indoor-carpeted courts, an excellent refreshment area, function suite, and fitness facilities for use throughout the tournament.

Tournament Format (see right) The event will include 32 mixed doubles pairings Fri 2nd Sat 3rd Sun 4th from across Britain. There will be 8 groups of 4 teams, 0800 playing a round robin (win[2]/loose[0]/draw[1]) 0900 ¼s format. In these group stages (played over Friday 1000 4crts and Saturday) the matches will consist of two tie-break 1100 Group sets. Stages The finals day (Sunday 4th June) will include 1200 1300 ½s quarter finals, semi finals, and the final, all of which 1400 Group 4 crts 2 crts will consist of the best of three tie-break sets. 1500 Stages Immediately following the final there will be a short 1600 prize giving ceremony (PGC*). 1700 4 crts Final 1800 1crt Seedings 1900 PGC* The seedings for the tournament will be at the 2000 2100 Dinner discretion of the tournament committee, and will be 2200 + based upon: 2300 Social Night 1. Joint LTA rating 2400 Event Out 2. Joint national LTA singles ranking 3. Position of University in BUSA league

Accommodation / Transport Participants will be staying in lively hostel accommodation within reasonable distance from the tournament venue, and their entry fee will cover bed and breakfast as well as transport (via a minibus) to and from the hostel. Social Events We are planning a social night on the Friday night, and a big function on the Saturday night, for all applicants, their coaches, and the tournament officials. We think that this will be a great way to round off the group stages, and build the excitement for the knockout stages, which will follow the next day.

Application Process Due to constraints placed on us by the funding body, we must hold the event this year, and so have chosen the weekend 02/06/06 - 04/06/06. As a result we require the completed application form together with the £25/pairing entrants fee (cheques made payable to: Glasgow University Tennis Club) to be posted to us by Wednesday 3 rd May. Simply print off the application form attached to the email from your sports president, fill it out, and post it back to us at the address below.
