Again starting this week with a fresh appeal from this morning,

Appeal after cash delivery stolen in robbery outside a Ringwood bank

Published: Friday, February 1, 2013

Police are appealing for witnesses after a security guard delivering cash to the Lloyds TSB Bank in the High Street, Ringwood was robbed at around 9am this morning.

A man came up to him snatched the cash cassette he was carrying and then got on a motorbike that was being driven by another man that was waiting nearby. They then rode off up Mansfield Road towards the duel carriageway.

The Black Honda SH300, scooter style, motorbike has since been found abandoned at Narrow Lane in Poulner near the slip road on to the A31 eastbound.

No one was hurt in the incident but bank staff and the guard were left shocked by what happened.

The cash cassette was found abandoned and empty nearby.

A search is currently being carried out for the robbers and officers are appealing for any witnesses to the incident.

The motorbike rider was wearing dark clothing and a black helmet. It's thought likely they travelled from outside the area to commit the robbery.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the crime to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lyndhurst CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

www.hants.gov.uk Whilst Kirstie and I were on patrol in the Godshill area on Tuesday at 16.45 we came across a dog owner distressed at the side of the road. Her dog had just been hit by a white van, the van did not stop and the dog was in a lot of pain. We assisted the owner to get her dog to the local vets which was not straight forward as the owner was bitten by her dog as she tried to move it. This whole situation lead me to think if it would be worthwhile including a brief overview on animals and Road Traffic Accidents:

Road Traffic Accidents Involving Dogs

Section 27 of the Road Traffic Act 1998 states that: “A person who causes or permits a dog to be on a designated road without the dog being held on a lead is guilty of an offence. It also states, in this section, “designated road” means a length of road specified by an order in that behalf of the local authority in whose area the length of road is situated.

Section 170 states that: it is a legal requirement to report any road accident which causes damage to any animal which is not on or in the vehicle involved. The definition of 'animal' however currently only includes the following: dogs, horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, goats, ass and mules.

The above shows that there are responsibilities on both sides in relation to this, though the general good practice and human thing would as we all know would be to stop safely if we were involved in an accident involving “animals”.

New Milton takeaway owner pleads guilty to food hygiene offences

Release date: 31 January 2013

New Forest District Council has successfully prosecuted a New Milton takeaway after environmental health officers discovered evidence of rat activity at the premises during a routine inspection.

Mr Yasar Sen, the owner of The Kebab House, 5 Westcroft Parade, Station Road, New Milton, entered guilty pleas to three food hygiene offences at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 29 January 2013. He was fined £2000 and ordered to pay £2000 legal costs.

During an inspection on 25 July 2012, the council's environmental health officers found that a shed used as a food store at the rear of the shop was not adequately pest-proofed and that there was significant evidence of rat activity.

At the time of the visit the business voluntarily agreed to surrender food and food packaging from the shed and agreed not to keep food in it until it had been pest-proofed, cleaned and disinfected. This was successfully carried out within days of the visit and additional works have now been completed to further pest-proof food storage areas.

When sentencing Mr Sen, magistrates said that the company had failed to take all adequate measures to prevent rats from accessing the food store shed. The magistrates stated that the offences posed a serious health risk to the public, and fined Mr Sen £1000 for one offence and £500 for each of the two other offences. Mr Sen was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Councillor Edward Heron, New Forest District Council's portfolio holder for the environment, said: "To allow rats into a food business is a serious offence. Our environmental health officers took appropriate action to protect public health and I am pleased that the owner of the Kebab House has now pest-proofed the food storage areas."

Concerns about food hygiene matters in the New Forest can be reported to Environmental Health Services by telephoning 023 8028 5230.

Kind regards, and stay safe.
