Weekly News Week of: September 6, 2016 This Week’s News Hi All, We had a great first week in Room 108. While I know that for some a new teacher and classroom can be a big adjustment, I’m hoping that the reports were mostly positive. I’m betting your child was tired by Friday afternoon, I know I was! As the first and second graders focused on getting to know one another, we learned the names of our classmates, played a variety of cooperative games, and created classroom materials to be used throughout the year. The students were especially excited about the stories and songs we read together. Our first community chapter book is about a young girl named Dory Fantasamagory. Her most defining characteristic is her WILD imagination. We laughed together as we entered into Dory’s world of whacky-make-believe. Each afternoon we went to a brand new Barton specialist, Nora. Nora is our Health teacher. The students discussed caring for themselves and for others. They completed artwork, played games, and learned a story about Sneetches. On Friday morning, we attended our first All School Morning Meeting where we sat with our Big Buddies for the first time. We thought it was really funny to watch the 1-8th grade teachers spell out kindness by lying on the floor. KINDNESS is Barton’s school theme for the 2016-2017 schoolyear! Have a productive week, Linda Wilterdink ([email protected]) First and Second Grade/Barton Open Elementary Notes and Reminders
