How to use this resource This resource, Laptop wrap: Chinese – Holidays, is designed to support the Digital Education Revolution – NSW (DER-NSW) program. The resources and tasks are aimed at supporting student use of the DER-NSW laptops in both online and offline classroom environments.

If you have difficulty viewing this resource on the DER-NSW laptop screens you can switch your web browser to full screen mode. With your web browser open, press F11 to switch between normal and full screen mode.

In Laptop wrap: Chinese – Holidays, students complete a number of activities based on conversations in Chinese about holidays. They then work on a number of creative tasks which incorporate the learning from these activities.

Explore Students listen to Julie and Paul in Holidays, Activity 2 of Dàjiā dōu lái shuō!, and complete a series of accompanying activities.

Your tasks Note—some tasks require the Chinese script to be turned on. Task 1 contains step-by-step instructions on how to do this on the laptops.

Research places and transport in China This activity can be done individually or in groups. The travel websites listed in the Explore section are good sites to start the search.

In the fourth step, students collate their ideas on a map of China. This could be a class activity to share ideas and information, and learn from other students. This step could be done on an interactive whiteboard.

Plan a trip to China This can be an individual, pair or small group activity.

It is recommended that students hand write a draft of their itinerary for teachers to check before typing it into Microsoft Word.

The itinerary template provided can be amended by teachers to suit their students.

Create a travel brochure in Chinese This is a pair or small group activity.

This activity gives students an opportunity to apply their knowledge of Chinese vocabulary related to holidays to talk about holidays in Australia. Depending on prior language learning, students are encouraged to talk about unique places in their local area, not only established tourist sites.

It is recommended that students hand write the first draft of their text for teachers to check. They can then add the text in PowerPoint.
