Dear Parents/Carers

TRIP TO WEYMOUTH – Monday 11th July Thank you to everyone who has made a voluntary contribution, at the time of writing, 81% of contributions have been received, with an outstanding balance of £260. With extremely tight school budgets we rely on your support to make these memorable trips financial viable. If you have overlooked your contribution please make your payment via your ParentPay account as soon as possible. Thank you.

YEAR 4 SPORTS TRANSITION WEDNESDAY 13th JULY, 1:30pm TO 4:00pm Children transferring to Selwood Academy will spend the afternoon on Wednesday 13th July participating in a range of sporting activities run by Year 8 Sports Leaders at Selwood Academy. The aim is for everyone to have fun being active and cooperating with others from their new class and to feel even more positive about the move to Selwood in September. Your child needs to come to school dressed in PE kit. A hat, a drink and sun cream is essential if the weather is hot and sunny. Your child will travel by coach to Selwood Academy after lunch. Please make arrangements to collect your child from Selwood at 4.00pm. You are welcome to go into Selwood Academy after 3.50pm when Selwood children have left the site, but it is important to sign your child out with Mrs. Slade before you leave. Car Parking will be on the playground or staff car park or Frome Town Football Club. Please confirm you have made arrangements to collect your child by e-mailing [email protected] Thank you.

LEAVERS’ CELEBRATIONS As we approach the end of term we are beginning our preparations for our Leavers Celebrations. Both celebrations will be on the last day of term, Tuesday 19th July. At Norton St Philip our Celebration will be held in the Church at 11.00am and will be followed by an end of term picnic back at school. Children will be dismissed at 1.15pm. At Rode the Leavers Celebration will commence at school at 2pm. All are welcome. We aim to be finished by 3.15pm

SAINSBURYS VOUCHERS We'd like to thank everyone who has donated their Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers to Rode and Norton School. The final total is a whopping 9496!! The vouchers have been exchanged for a variety of new play equipment to replenish the play sheds on both sites. The amount we've collected has ensured the children will have the opportunity to play with all manner of skipping, throwing, catching and team games, as well as lots of imaginative play items during their lunchtimes next year. Thank you!

ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORTS Due to circumstances beyond our control reports will now be available in the week commencing 11th July. We apologies for the delay.

NORTON ST PHILIP SCHOOL NEWS

TRANSPORT AND CHILD CARE LOGISTICS FOR SEPTEMBER 2016 We are currently finalising mini-bus arrangements for September. Please could all parents who will be requiring a place on the mini-bus either on a regular or occasional arrangement confirm this before the end of this term so that we can prepare register lists etc. prior to the start of next term? We don’t at this point need to know details of when you will be using the mini-bus only if you will be using it. There is no obligation to use the bus and if any parent wishes to drop their children at Rode they would be most welcome. If you will need to drop your children off at Rode at 8.45am in order to enable you to get siblings to Norton by 9am a place in our Early Bird Club will be made available at no extra cost. However we will need you to let us know.

Initial plans are for the minibus to depart from outside Norton St Philip School at 8.30am and to return at 3.30pm. We will be having a test run next week without any children and will notify you of any changes in timings before the end of term. Childcare will be provided for siblings in Flintstones Class between 8.30 a.m. and 8.50 am and between 3.15-3.30pm. The Childcare will be in The Zone and a member of staff will escort children to and from their classrooms.

All the children who travelled on the mini-bus today for transition day seemed to enjoy the ride. Mrs Tommey was the conductor/ photographer and Mrs Rottenbury our driver! I hope they will tell you all about their journey and their afternoon.

UPDATE FROM NSP PTFA SPONSORED BIKE RIDE A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored Andy and Paul to complete the 80 miles of Bike Bath last Sunday. They both did a fantastic job and their support squad enjoyed cheering them on at various locations around the course. So far they have raised a fantastic £420 for our school. If you haven't sponsored yet you can still do so, just follow the link https://mydonate.bt.com/events/andyandpaulbikebath/308931

LOST & FOUND Genevieve Orzabal has misplaced her named pink Nike water bottle. If you find Genevieve’s water bottle or have mistakenly picked it up please could it be returned to the school office. Thank you.

FORS UPDATE QUEENS TEA PARTY FORS would like to thank everyone for such a fantastic afternoon last Friday. Despite the unpredictable rain showers, spirits were not dampened and once again the children amazed us with some fantastic musical performances and a stunning catwalk parade of the ‘Queens knickers’, gorgeous head dresses and dazzling red, white and blue outfits. The BBQ was met with many hungry tummies, as were the fantastic cakes and cream teas and lets not forget the PIMMS bar helping spirits along! We raised over £600 which will help go towards FORS contribution to the Weymouth trip. A huge thank you to all that baked, created, served, helped organised and performed.

RODE Fete - 16th July Our final event of the summer will be the annual Rode Fete. Again run jointly between SCOUTS, Pre School, Playing Field and FORS we will be managing the Café, Tuck Shop, Ice Cream Shack & PIMMS bar. Like last year we’ll be popping up a rosta schedule & asking parents/teachers/staff to volunteer to help for an hour or so on the day, to help spread the load between us! Along with some fantastic stalls, activities, entertainments for all the family during the day, the fun will continue into the evening with an open mic session running from 6.30 - 7.30pm compared by Jarred Christmas. If you fancy having a go you can sign up on the day or speak to Sarah Dowie or Ellie Hannay. The fun then continues with the BLUES OTHERS getting everyone up and boogying between 8.00 and 10.00pm and the evening would not be right before throwing some shapes on the dance floor to the legendary DJ John-Wyn. Tickets are on sale for £10 an adult and £5 per child. (The child ticket includes a free hot dog and age specific bushcraft activities run by WILD EDGE for the first 48 kids - 1st come 1st served on the day). Tickets can be bought from FORS, the X Keys or Rode PO .

Please join in!
