a) Paul Fly Parent Faculty Club b) Meeting Minutes January 12, 2017

Call to order The meeting was called to order the meeting at 6:33pm on January 12, 2017 in the Paul Fly library.

Approval of minutes from the December meeting Motioned by Shannon Costontino & seconded by Shannon Mienski to approve the minutes from December. Minutes were approved.

Special guest – Dr. McGriff  Dr. McGriff provided an update on the district wide science fair that will be held this year. o Held at the High school on 2/15 o Science fair will have a different format this year. The following areas will be available during the science fair: . Makersspace – space will be dedicated to the students attending the science fair where they will be able to engage in educational activities . Partnership - Vendors will be there where they can engage in educational activities with o Doors will open at 5pm for the families to walk around

Principal Report

 Mrs. Fitzgerald is filling in with Mrs. Homka (Mrs. Homka will be returning in the beginning of May)  Building sub: Ms. Zalalas  Tech Time: Students are learning how to use the app scratch jr. to write code. They will continue the learning to build animate ditital stored and complete complex tasks requing code (logic & problem solving). We are also learning about code writing using an online tool called lightbot.  Drama club – Up and running  Fresh fruits & vegetable grant was awarded to Paul Fly. Students will be testing out new fruits and veggies throughout the year.  Safeties: They have learned 3 of the 7 habits of highly effective students: o Be Proactive o Begin with the end in mind o Put first things first  Upcoming Research for each grade o K – They will be researching artic animals o 1st – researching various animals (land/ocean0 o 2nd: Sharks, Helen Keller and rain forest animals o 3rd science fair projects o 4th – science fair projects, researching famous black Americans.  Upcoming Events o 1/26 – Dream box parent workshop 9:15 o 2/8 – PVF science night o 2/10 – 100th day of school & bingo night o 2/8 – PVF Science Fair o 2/15 Spring Pictures o 2/24 – Chuck-e cheese  DreamBox – Replacing first in math. It is programmed to adjust the questions based on your students’ level in math. It will adjust as the complete the tasks. o Students can now access dream box from home o How to access: o Through Norristown school district website or http://play.dreambox.come/login/x7nw/u9s4 . Instructions from the NASD website:  From Departments select Curriculum , select your grade level, select DreamBox Learning, Select your school, you can then log on. o Enter student login (First initial + last initial + student id o Password: NASD123 o A workshop will be held on 1/26. If you are unable to attend the session, please reach out to your student’s teacher for the information.

Teacher’s Report  A huge thank you for the pod parties  Mrs. Lunney & Mrs. Schultz said thank you for the pizza party.  Mrs. Lonsdale and Mrs. Ridgeway – holding an event on 1/26. Please come out and learn more about DreamBox.  The continental reading group has been formed and they are reading. Thank you for purchasing the books for the kids.

President’s Report  Drama Club o There are 22 students enrolled in the program o The first session was held on January 10th.  PFC webpage o Flyers and meeting minutes will be available on the website  There is a Parent Engagement seminar being held on 1/16 from 10am – 12:30pm at Norristown Area HS cafeteria. 1st Vice president report  Book total is 16,000. Our goal is 49,000 books for the students to read throughout the year.  Science assembly was held on 1/5. It was Jack’s electricity. It was a phenomenal presentation.  Looking for volunteers for the next RIF day (in May).

2nd Vice president Report Fundraisers:  Burger King - $80 profit. It was a good turnout.

Upcoming fundraiser:  Stocks pound cake sale in February. The price will be $14  Snowball Dance - 1/20 o Looking for basket donations. Winter theme (snow play); Breast cancer basket (to support Mrs. Hagel’s walk for breast cancer awareness).  Bingo night

Treasurer’s Report  There is a summary report provide (see attachment).  It walks through the expenses and reconciliation of the activities going on throughout the month.  There was also a summary of month by month of the activities. It included the profit/expense for each activity completed.

Committee Reports  Yearbook o Baby pictures are due 2/24 for 4th graders o Love Notes – open to all grades. It will be $1 per line. o Pricing will be voted in the February meeting. o Cover is due on 1/30  4th Grade slide show – any group pictures you have of the 4th graders, please send them in to Denise.  Book Fair – Book fair will be held 2/27 – 3/5. It will also be open on Math & Reading night. We will need extra volunteers during the Math & Reading night. Look for the volunteer sign- up sheets. During this time, a coin challenge will be underway.  Spring pictures – March 15th; Pictures will be taken and a proof will be sent home.  Pod Parties – Thank you to Rosa for coordinating. Received $1400 for the donations. $400 dollars was spent on the Winter party. The remaining money will be used in the spring event and then the year end picnic.  Looking for a Field day committee and Jubilee committee. o Heather volunteered to chair the basket committee.
