POLICY

Health, fitness and wellbeing policy The Health, fitness and wellbeing policy has been published on the Administration Policies page of the Intranet.

The Health, fitness and wellbeing policy provides a supportive foundation that encompasses links to the various underlying health, fitness and wellbeing programs and procedures. The intention is to assist all employees to make a shift from reactive responses in relation to illness and injury, to focussing on safety, health promotion and prevention.

All employees must familiarise themselves with this policy and the updated FRNSW Fitness Program Procedures.

This policy rescinds In Orders 2010/2, Health and fitness programs, Touch football and jogging programs, and Gymnasium facilities; In Orders 1999/17, Use of NSWFB gymnasium facilities by administrative and trades staff; In Orders 2005/21, Employee Assistance Program; In Orders 1990/25, Critical incident debriefing (CID) program; In Orders 1993/20, Applications to join the Critical Incident Debriefing Team; In Orders 2000/11, Critical Incident Debriefing Program; and In Orders 2003/1, Employee Assistance Program/Critical Incident Support Program.

PROCEDURES

Electrical Safety Kit – issue of leather over-gloves and updated SIMS worksheet

1. New leather over-gloves issued New leather over-gloves are being issued to all electrical safety kits through AE Bakers. The leather over-gloves replace the leather general purpose gloves currently in the electrical safety kit.

2. Initial Issue The leather over-gloves will be issued to each electrical safety kit. This issue will commence in February 2012. This issue is automatic. Stations are not required to place orders for the initial issue.

3. Action required Upon receiving the initial issue leather over-gloves, Station Commanders must:

 Remove the general purpose gloves currently stowed in the electrical safety kit and replace them with the leather over-gloves.  Download and print the new SIMS worksheet Electrical Safety Kit, and place it on the SIMS board.

4. Wearing instructions The leather over-gloves must be worn in accordance with Guideline Support Document for Electricity SOGs 14.2 - 14.7, Section 3.

5. Inspection and replacement Leather over-gloves must be inspected in accordance with the SIMS worksheet and replaced when necessary.

Replacement gloves are available through ESCAT.

Standard Operational Guidelines – updated electricity SOGs

1. Introduction Over-gloves are being issued for use with the electrical safety kit and, as a result of this, references to the gloves are now included in SOG 14.2, Isolating power at incidents, SOG 14.7, Alternative power sources and the Guideline support document for electricity SOGs 14.2 – 14.7.

Also, labelling and photos of switchboards have been corrected in the Guideline support document for electricity SOGs 14.2 – 14.7, plus there is some additional information about the GLM Mini Rescue voltage detector and about substations.

2. Standard Operational Guidelines published The following have been published and are available on the Standard Operational Guidelines site on Station Portal:

All Commanders must ensure that all crews are aware of the contents of these SOGs and that they are incorporated in station training.

3. Updating folders If your station maintains an A4 SOG folder, print out the SOGs and guideline support document from the Intranet. Place the new pages in the folder and destroy the rescinded pages, and make an entry in the Occurrence Book.

The check sheets will be printed and distributed in hard copy shortly, for filing in the A5 SOG check sheet folder carried on appliances. In the meantime, you can print out temporary A5 check sheets and file them in the A5 folder. There are instructions on printing temporary SOG check sheets on the Lessons Learned Centre site. Also print and file the updated check sheet folder contents from the Lessons Learned Centre site.

Makita Cordless tools – updated SIMS worksheets New versions of the following SIMS worksheets have been published to the intranet:

 Cordless tools: Makita hammer drills with NiMH battery (Ver 03)  Cordless tools: Makita reciprocating saw and drill with NiMH battery (Ver 02)  Cordless tools: Makita reciprocating saw with NiMH battery (Ver 02)  Cordless tools: Makita reciprocating saw and drill with Li battery (Ver 02)

Changes to the new worksheets include:

 a specific requirement for after use and monthly inspection of battery chargers, leads and plugs  charger leads to be secured to prevent entanglement in the appliance.

Station Commanders must print out the new worksheets relevant to equipment on their appliances, remove old worksheets from their SIMs boards and replace them with the new versions.

The Specialised Operations Directorate has been renamed the Operational Capability Directorate.
