S U NP Push wristwatch and long uniform sleeves above wrists. Avoid wearing rings. If worn, remove during washing. ______Be sure fingernails are short, filed, and smooth. ______Stand in front of sink, keeping hands and uniform away from sink surface. (If hands touch sink during handwashing, repeat.) ______Turn on water. Turn faucet on or push knee pedals laterally, or press pedals with foot to regulate flow and temperature. ______Avoid splashing water against uniform. ______Regulate flow of water so that temperature is warm. ______Wet hands and wrist thoroughly under running water. Keep hands and forearms lower than elbows during washing ______Apply a small amount of soap or antiseptic, lathering thoroughly. ______Perform hand hygiene using plenty of lather and friction for at least 10 to 15 seconds. Interlace fingers and rub palms and back of hands with circular motion at least 5 times each. Keep fingertips down to facilitate removal of microorganism. ______Areas underlying fingernails are often soiled. Clean them with the fingernails of other hand and additional soap, or clean with an orangewood stick. ______Rinse hands and wrists thoroughly, keeping hands down and elbows up. ______Dry hands thoroughly from fingers to wrists and forearms with paper towel, single-use cloth, or warm air dryer. ______If used, discard paper towel in proper receptacle. ______To turn off hand faucet, use clean, dry paper towel, avoiding touching handles with. Turn off water with foot or knee pedals ______Apply lotion to hands. Use the facility-provided lotion if one is provided
