She was the only daughter 19 born to Paul and Brennie Black. Helen grew up on a large farm 20 with six brothers in the Friendship Community; and 21 22 Whereas, Helen married Jean Belue and the two were blessed with 23 two daughters, Frances (Ron) Pratt and Jeannie (Mel) Emory, six 24 grandsons, four great granddaughters, and eight great grandsons; 25 and 26 27 Whereas, Helen is a member at Cambridge United Methodist 28 Church where she still attends. She has previously served as a 29 Sunday School teacher and she currently enjoys her involvement 30 with the Ninety Six Senior Citizens at the Depot; and 31 32 Whereas, Helen and Jean moved to Ninety Six in 1939, when Jean 33 was a pitcher for the Textile League baseball team for Self Mills. 34 Helen worked in the cloth room as a cloth inspector at the Self 35 Mills Ninety Six plant. She retired from the plant at age seventy; 36 and 37 38 Whereas, Helen was also the manager and assistant for the Textile 39 League women’s basketball team in the 1940’s, and as a Girl 40 Scouts assistant in the 1950’s. She supported all of Ninety Six’s 41 sports teams and her husband while he served two terms as mayor

[1342] 2 1 of Ninety Six. Helen was also a member of the Eastern Star. She 2 was inducted into the Ninety Six Hall of Fame in 2013; and 3 4 Whereas, Helen’s hobbies include playing cards, making quilts for 5 her family, and fishing. She has always enjoyed sports and has 6 followed her husband playing and coaching baseball for textile 7 teams and little league baseball. Helen enjoyed watching her 8 daughters play high school basketball and now enjoys watching 9 her grandsons playing sports. She enjoys watching the Atlanta 10 Braves and other college and professional baseball and softball 11 teams on television; and 12 13 Whereas, Helen loves to talk and tell stories from her childhood. 14 She enjoys church and is proud and supportive of her family and 15 community. She enjoys life; and 16 17 Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor Helen in commemorating 18 her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family 19 and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary 20 milestone. Now, therefore, 21 22 Be it resolved by the Senate: 23 24 That the Senate, by this resolution, congratulates Helen Virginia 25 Black Belue on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday on June 26 19, 2014 and wishes her a joyous birthday celebration and much 27 happiness in the days ahead. 28 29 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 30 Helen Virginia Black Belue. 31 XX 32
