YOUR TOTAL POINTS: ______DESIGNING A KITCHEN PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Part of being an interior designer is presenting your color boards in front of people. Whether you are a commercial designer presenting to a company or a residential designer presenting to a client…you will have to speak in front of people and SELL YOUR DESIGNS! In your presentation, you will need to sell your kitchen design to your audience (your classmates). In your presentation you should mention the following:

1. Your overall goal when creating this kitchen. What was the mood or feel you were hoping to create?

2. How did you create this mood? (This is where you might point out the elements that you used to help you create the feel. For example, you might say “The bright colors were used to create excitement” or “ I chose the highboy chairs to help create a feeling of strength.” Do not come out and say “I used the principle of rhythm by…”)

3. Explain your reasons behind your choices of floor coverings, wall coverings, counters and backsplash.

4. Explain your reasons behind your choice of furniture style, lighting and window treatments.

5. Describe your appliance and accessory choices…what do they contribute to the feel of the mood?

5. Explain how you incorporated green design.

6. Describe how this kitchen meets the needs of a family with children.

7. Include any other points that you feel are relevant to your design.

Be prepared to answer questions from your classmates. Also…sell your design. This is good practice for the real world. Enthusiasm, eye contact and confidence are important!
