Dear Parent, October 2017
Tough Guy 2018
Your son has expressed a desire to be a member of a Whitgift team entering the Tough guy event on 4th February 2018. The cost of the event is £65, please see the link for information about the event. http://www.toughguy.co.uk/
Many of you will have read about Whitgift’s participation in these exciting adventure running events and I am delighted to be able to offer them once again this year. It is important that you understand what the event entails; the race websites are the best source of information in this regard. As per previous years, all boys running in Tough Guy are challenged to raise £50 or more for the School’s charities.
Although the Tough guy event is arduous and requires a good level of fitness, it is an extremely well organised and marshalled. Your son will be required to demonstrate a minimum level of fitness before taking part in any of the races. To help your son prepare for this event, it is strongly recommended that he attend some Cross Country training, led by Miss Mitchell, which takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 4.00pm-5.00pm.
Please note that if your son would like to participate in Tough Guy, he will be required to take part in at least one school organised training event prior to end of the Michaelmas term.
Please also note that if your son is likely to be selected for a school sporting first team fixture within a week after the Tough guy event, it is likely that he will not be allowed to participate, due to the attritional nature of the event. In this instance, please get in contact with either NJC or Mr Osbourne to confirm asap.
To confirm your son’s involvement, please return the attached Confirmation Slip, and the Pupil Code of Conduct Form C to Mr Croker by Friday, 10th November. A place on the event can be secured by making a payment on Wisepay for £65, which covers the entry fee and transport for the day. For those boys who will be under 18 years of age on Tough Guy race day, it is also necessary to complete the disclaimer form from this event, which is enclosed with this letter.
Transport will be organised by the School to take pupils to and from the event. However, I would also encourage all parents to come and support their son – and the staff! - on the day.The Tough guy event takes place at Jenny Walker Lane, Perton, South Staffordshire, WV6 7HB If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Mr N J Croker Head of Geography Adventure Running Events 201 4-2015 Confirmation Slip
