Temporary Nursing Employees Onboarding Guidelines

I. PROCESS for Manpower Employee Onboarding Person(s) Process Responsible Unit Nurse 1. Requests candidate application from Manpower. Manager 2. Unit Nurse Manager interviews and extends offer. 3. If candidate accepts, then Manpower will send Unit Nurse Manager an email with candidate’s birthdate, Social Security number, and other pertinent information.

Unit AA 1. Register Manpower employee in the Internal Revenue System (IRS) to obtain UMHS computer access. (or designee) 2. You should receive an email within 3 days with your new hire’s unique name and UMID #

The Manpower hire’s unique name and UMID are forwarded to the new hire along with a “welcome.” The new hire then calls MCIT. See section III.B. 3. Register the Manpower hire into Skills Lab A by emailing the nurse-CNO mailbox with hire’s name, uniquename, and UMID. 4. Send information on parking as follows: Parking information (http://pts.umich.edu/forms/parking_request.pdf). 5. Provide form for Manpower hire to obtain ID badge at Key/ID office http://www.med.umich.edu/security/keyid.htm 6. Enroll Manpower hire into MiChart.

February 2015_Temporary Nursing Orientation 1 7. Enroll Manpower hire into MLearning modules as required institutionally and at the unit level. IF you do not see your new hire in MLearning, then email/call MLearning to get your new hire into your unit’s domain. Email: [email protected]/Phone: 734-615-5146 8. Start a blue folder for new hires, including Manpower employee.

ENC 1. Receives information on Manpower hire from Unit Nurse Manager (or designee) 2. (a) Check BLS card for Manpower hire and email his or her’s name, UMID, expiration date to MLearning. (b) A valid BLS card must meet the following requirements: • An expiration date of more than 6 months from date of hire, • Must be completed through the American Heart Association (AHA), and • State “healthcare provider class” on the certificate of completion. • ACLS does not replace BLS 3. Schedule unit orientation (Calling the new hire is recommended to answer questions/concerns).

ORIENTATION for Temporary Nursing Employees: Unit-Based Temporary Unit-Based Temporary Manpower RN/LPN Assistive Personnel Temporary MTV day one only (with HR permission) MTV day one only (with HR permission) NO MTV (Completes on-line module on unit)  CNO-all topics (except UMPNC) CNO—all AP topics including Skills Lab A Skill Lab A including Skills Lab A, B,C  Med/Surg Cluster and/or Peds Cluster  Critical Care Orientation (if required by assigned unit) NOTE: NOTE: IF then hired as a permanent, needs NOTE: If then hired as a unit-based AP  IF then hired as a permanent, needs to to attend MTV day two as temp or regular employee, then the attend UMPNC and MTV day two follows steps as a regular or temp UMHS  Fingerprint to be registered on unit hire. starting March 2015 for Omnicell access.

February 2015_Temporary Nursing Orientation 3 Steps for filling out form: 1. Click add appointees (top of screen), fill in all red star areas (DOB, Name, Email, Gender, Phone, Supervisor) 2. Appointment—use drop down and select role of new hire 3. Supervisor’s unique name 4. Appointment start date and end date---- 1 year from hire ( put date as one day short of one year example- if 6/3/13 hire date put in 6/2/14) 5. Click the ready to process check box @ top left 6. The Comment box this is where you would let them know if employee was an alumni, previously worked her under another name, student nurse clinical etc.) 7. Click on SAVE appointee box

Welcome! This letter contains your unique name and University of Michigan identification number or UMID. You will need your unique name to log onto our computer system and to create a level 2 password.

Now that you have your unique name and UMID you will need to call the University of Michigan MCIT help desk to create a level 2 password.

Once you have spoken with MCIT and created your password you will now have access to the University of Michigan computer system. You will need to have your unique name and password for your first day of orientation.
