MAY PROCESSION – FRIDAY, MAY 18TH St. Mel School would like to invite all parents and friends to join us as we honor Our Mother Mary. The Procession will begin outside on the playground at 11am, and then all students will process into the Church for the ceremony. Parents, we recommend that you sit in the side chapels at Church. Flowers: Students are asked to bring flowers and greenery (especially ivy and any vines) from their gardens and deliver them to the auditorium, before school begins, on Friday. Flowers/greenery will be used to decorate Mary's throne.

Rosaries: Students will need to bring a rosary to school on Thursday. If you don’t have a rosary, the school office will loan you one.

Parking: There will be limited parking available in front of the school office.

1 st Communion Parents : 1st Communicants are asked to wear their First Communion attire to school on Friday, May 18 as a special tribute to our Mother Mary.

8 th Grade Parents : Students in 8th grade will be wearing their May Procession attire to school on Friday, May 18.

Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts: If you are a member of a troop, you are invited to wear your Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniform to school on Friday, May 18th.

**Attention Parent Volunteers**: Come help out at the May Procession…we'd love to have you at any of the following: Friday, May 18: Come to the auditorium after drop off (bring your gloves and floral shears!) to help with the flowers for the sanctuary. Right after the May Procession, we will need help clearing out the flowers in the Church. May Procession is in need of a few baked goods for breakfast in the auditorium after drop off. Thank you. OFFICE NOTES :  As a reminder: Outstanding fees (pledge commitment of $400 or $500, 40 hours in volunteer service, etc.) for this school year are due no later than tomorrow, May 15 th . Included in today’s envelope is your Obligation Statement which includes Fundraising and Volunteer hours posted as of May 11th. Please look over this statement carefully for accuracy and if you feel there is a discrepancy, please make note of it IN WRITING on the statement and return it in the family envelope.  Safeguard the Children Self-Protection Program begins this week.

Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, May 20th at 11:00 AM. There will be a reception following the Mass in the Msgr. O’Connor Center.

Summer School News: We’re offering some great classes this summer. Go to www.stmel.org (home page) and pull up the summer school brochure. Classes are quickly filling up so return your registration form today. Your deposit of $25 per class is due no later than Friday, 6/1. ATTENTION 2 ND GRADE PARENTS  Second graders are asked to wear their First Communion attire to school on Friday, May 18, for the May Procession.  The school photographer will be here on Friday, 5/18, taking pictures of the second graders in their First Communion attire. If you are interested in purchasing a picture package, please turn your form and money in no later than tomorrow, 5/15.

ATTENTION 8 TH GRADE PARENTS Enclosed in your envelope is the Disneyland permission slip. Form is due back by next Tuesday, 5/22.

ATTENTION 7 TH GRADE PARENTS Students will be going to the California Science Center on Tuesday, 5/15. Students should be at school no later than 7:30am. Students will be wearing their school uniforms and bringing a sack lunch with a bottle of water.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! What a beautiful experience for our 1st Communicants who received the Sacrament of First Communion last Saturday. We are very grateful to their teachers, Mrs. Ramos Mrs. Moran, Miss McLarty and Mrs. Moran who prepared the students for receiving this Sacrament. 2nd graders would like to thank their wonderful Room Parents and Parent Volunteers who organized the 1st Communion banners and chalices and Mrs. Penney & her Choir for the beautiful singing at the Masses. Thanks to our families who supported March Madness at Soups Restaurant. We received a check for $187.00. Thanks also to Greg Lanasey who coordinated this event.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta: Thank you to Mrs. Stumpf for coordinating the 7th grade fiesta and helping serve food along with Mrs. Eichberg. Thank you also to Mrs. Nwajei and Mrs. Bauer for coordinating the 8th grade fiesta and for all the families (Pavell, Aguilera, Slipe, Bauer, James, Davila, Nwajei, Rodriguez, Vasquez and Molle) who brought in items for the fiesta.
