Evolution Essay Questions

1. Explain how the ratio of dominant to recessive alleles within a population can tell you if a population is evolving. In your explanation list the conditions that need to be in place for evolution not to happen, why we are concerned about alleles vs phenotypes, and an example of how each of the five conditions can be violated.

2. Discuss why there is no perfect species. In your discussion include topics such as extinction, adaptive radiation, genetic parameters, mutations as well as examples.

3. Describe the order of living organisms inhabiting the earth. Include but don’t limit your discussion to single celled organisms, eukaryotic cells, metabolism, inhabiting land and humans.

4. Describe how speciation can occur. Include but don’t limit your discussion to the definition of a species, sexual selection, allopatric/sympatric speciation, and hybrid zones.
