The best practice Raider Battalion has had was the drill team practices we had throughout the year. The practices were a major success due to the battalion leadership enforcing discipline, while allowing the cadets breaks to relax for a few brief minutes before getting back into practice. The practices were mainly successful due to the strong leadership of the instructors and staff members and the constructive criticism of said drill team members, the initiative taken by the team members, and the Raider Battalion leadership camp held at the school prior to the actual drill practices. First, the leadership of the drill team included the Battaliom Commander, S-3, and varying members of company staff. They disciplined the team when a member was being insubordinate or lazy through push-ups, and possible removal from the team. They also helped the lagging team members through one-on-one confrontations when a member was making repeated mistakes during the drill sequence. This improved the total enthusiasm of the team unlike calling a teammate out during the middle of the sequence, which leads to resentment within the team, which would effect future practices negatively. The leaders were also proficient with the drill we were learning, so tutoring the new cadets through the most basic drill was relatively quick and we were able to start practicing the entire sequence quickly after. Next, the drill team members had taken lots of initiative during the drill season. The cadets took the time to stay after school and were patient when they were being taught drill commands. Due to the cadets not rushing into the sequence, there was a much prettier first practice and the pace the team was set at was relatively constant from the start. The team members were also very quick to get into formation for practice, and rarely talked unless they needed to during the practices. When the drill team was given shirts to wear to the state competiton everyone payed for the shirts on time and without issue. The lack of issues with these cadets reduced the friction within the platoon to almost zero, which sped the progress of the platoon even more so than the leadership could've on their own. Finally, the Raider Battalion Leadership Camp that was held on school grounds prior to school even beginning had in a way, catapulted the unit's overrall prowess in drill quite a bit. The camp gave cadets a little taste of every team available to them in the year, however drill was by far the most stressed out of them all. Every cadet took control, and was evaluated, of their own platoon and squad at one point and called commands for stretches, marching, and cadence. This created a strong understanding of drill and helped get the newer cadets at the camp more interested in joining the drill team. This had also shown a majority of the new cadets how to drill and march in a platoon and gave them the drive to join the team they were already quite experienced with Now to recap why drill practices were the most effective practice, they were led by strong and knowledgable leaders, the members had shown immense initiative, and the Raider Battalion Leadership Camp held at school all contributed to the most effective practices in the school

At JLAB, you will participate in a forum on JROTC Unit Best Practices. You are to prepare and submit a report on your unit’s best practice. Below is a non-all-inclusive list of possible unit best practices. Your Team must also prepare a presentation (Power Point or other presentation program) on this best practice. Your team will give your best practice presentation at the Unit Best Practices Forum, so be prepared.
