Pre AP Geometry Syllabus s1

Pre AP Geometry Syllabus

Instructor: Michele Mitchell Textbook: Glencoe Geometry, Supplements: LTF & Quality Core lessons Class Period: 2nd, 3rd, 6th

Pre AP Geometry is a course which increases students’ knowledge of shapes and their properties through geometry-based applications. This knowledge helps develop visual and spatial sense and strong reasoning skills. The Geometry course requires students to make conjectures and to use reasoning to validate or negate these conjectures. The use of proofs and constructions is a valuable tool that enhances reasoning skills and enables students to better understand more complex mathematical concepts. The topics included in this course support quality core objectives and common core state standards.

Classroom Rules

1. Always keep a positive attitude and do your best.

2. Respect others right to learn.

3. When others are speaking, please pay attention.

4. Follow directions the first time and do your own work.

5. Arrive to class on time with required materials.

6. Attend to personal needs before coming to class.

Consequences

1st offense - The student will receive a verbal warning.

2nd offense - The student will be assigned break detention.

3rd offense - The student will be written-up and/or the student's parents will be notified

4th offense - The student will be sent to the office immediately and the principal will decide the next course of action. Grades will consist of:

 Participation/Daily  Classwork  Homework  Quizzes  Vocabulary  Chapter Test, including a Construction Notebook  1st Semester Exam  2nd Semester Exam

Grading:

1st Semester Exam: 10% of 1st Semester grade 2nd Semester Exam: 10% of 2nd Semester grade ------Test: 70% Quizzes, Vocabulary: 20% Homework, Classwork, Participation / Daily: 10%

Late work is not accepted. Students will receive a zero for late homework assignments. Late projects will result in a twenty point automatic deduction for each late day. Assignments may be made up only in the event of an excused absence and will follow the guidelines set forth by the Lawrence County Board of Education. Make-up work is your responsibility. Failure to make up missed work within the set time limit will result in a grade of zero for the assignment.
