CITY OF REIDSVILLE HAS IMMEDIATE OPENING FOR - PUBLIC SERVICES WORKER

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: This position performs responsible semi-skilled work in street maintenance, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines; rights-of-way maintenance; maintenance and construction of storm drainage or cemetery and parks maintenance. Work involves the use of a variety of tools and light and medium equipment. Work may involve participating in a variety of skilled trades such as plumbing, masonry, and other tasks. The employees are subject to hazards associated with public works including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. Work is subject to on-call and call-back duties. Duties include working on a crew to patch potholes; provide masonry skills to repair sidewalks, and curb and gutter, and build driveway aprons; constructs and cleans out storm sewer; digs drainage ditches; or provides repair and maintenance tasks for cemetery or parks. Employee will also work on a crew to repair or construct water or sewer lines; assist with unclogging sewer lines; assist with making water or sewer taps, making service extensions, setting meters, installing or repairing hydrants. Employee will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as operating tractors for cutting grass in rights-of-way, vacant lots, or grounds, using power hand equipment; removing leaves and debris; trimming shrubbery, and clearing and landscaping grounds. Operates heavy equipment including trucks, dump trucks, rollers, tractors, loaders, and other medium and light equipment. Additional job duties may include performing general maintenance on municipal facilities and equipment. Employee must possess a working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in semi-skilled trades work. Possess a working knowledge of the standard practices, material, tools, and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work. Also have a working knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light equipment, and materials used in assigned work. Must work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens. PAY RATE: Negotiable depending on qualifications and experience

QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to read and write and some related experience in the specific trade area assigned.

CANDIDATE MUST ALSO POSSESS – Valid North Carolina Driver’s license. A Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License is also preferred.
