1 Whereas Cincinnati Sister City Association is bringing the second annual Cincinnati Yoga Day on October 8th 2016 from 10:00AM-4:00PM at the Duke Energy Convention Center, and

2 Whereas #oneUC is a cornerstone of the Phelps | Duncan platform, and this free event will connect UC Students with the greater community of Cincinnati, as well as the diverse communities of the nine Sister Cities: Liuzhou, China; Kharkiv, Ukraine; Gifu, Japan; Munich, Germany; Nancy, France; Harare, Zimbabwe; New Taipei City, Taiwan; Mysore, India; & Amman, Jordan, and

3 Whereas Cincinnati Sister City Association, a non-profit organization run solely by volunteers, would like to strengthen the already-established relationship with the University to promote study abroad opportunities, expand cultural awareness, and further establish the presence of student life in our local and international community, and

4 Whereas Cincinnati Yoga Day will serve as an opportunity to foster connections between students and the City of Cincinnati, bring together Cincinnati’s diverse community, encourage care, justice, respectfulness, & inclusivity to help create an environment in which all members of our city share a sense of community, & promote the benefits of yoga; strength, flexibility, and equilibrium of the mind and body, and

5 Whereas Cincinnati Yoga Day is dedicated to the proposition that yoga & wellness is for people of every race, economic background, age, and ability. This event will also feature talks on social justice, health, wellness, & human rights, and will also feature a performance by UC Junoon which is UC’s Bollywood fusion acapella group, and

6 Whereas UC Student Government will have a presence at this event and in the local community through the sponsoring of a guest speaker, Lilias Folan “The Frist Lady of Yoga” where she will speak and demonstrate yoga to the participants in attendance, and

7 Therefore be it appropriated that Student Government will allocate $400 from the Programs & Initiatives: Diversity & Inclusion line item.
