FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Karen Salaz 303/837-3633 1-800-888-0001 Ext. 633 Klein appointed to 19th Judicial District chief judge position Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey has appointed Roger A. Klein to the position of chief judge in the 19th Judicial District (Weld County). He replaces retiring Chief Judge William L. West, who has served in the position since January 1994. The appointment becomes effective Jan. 1, 2003. “I am looking forward to working with all the dedicated judges and employees of the court and probation departments we have in our district,” says Klein. “We all are facing challenging times as a result of the current state financial difficulties.” Judge Klein was appointed to the district court in 1995 after 21 years in the private practice of law in Greeley and a previous service of more than four years as a deputy state public defender in Sterling and Greeley. Judge Klein obtained his law degree from the University of Colorado and his undergraduate degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn. Judge Klein was assigned to the criminal division of the courts for his first four years on the bench. Since October 1999 he has been assigned to family court matters including domestic relations, dependency and neglect, adoption, and delinquency. He is the assistant water judge for Water Court Division I. Colorado is divided into 22 judicial districts, each with a chief judge. As chief judge in the 19th Judicial District, Klein will serve as the administrative head of the district. He will be responsible for appointing the district administrator, chief probation officer and clerks of the court to assist in the personnel, financial and case management of the district along with seeing that the business of the courts is conducted efficiently and effectively. Other responsibilities include judicial assignments within the district.
