Organization Winona Volunteer Services, Inc. is a nonprofit service provider in Winona County. Our mission is to help people address life’s challenges in a respectful and dignified manner. Our programs include the Supplemental Food Shelf, The Clothes Shop, Home Delivered Meals, Coordinated Assistance, Educational Opportunities and Holiday Projects.
Job Summary This position is responsible for coordinating all the activities that take place in the loading dock area and doing some upkeep in The Clothes Shop. We are looking for someone who can support the current policies and procedures while providing suggestions for improvements. This position will be working with volunteers and staff to maintain a clean, well-stocked and safe environment in both buildings as well as working with the Executive Director to increase food rescue from the community and additional duties as requested to support the WVS mission.
Essential Duties
Direct and support the work of volunteers in the loading dock Receive, verify, process and stock all food donations and deliveries according to WVS policies and procedures Keep loading dock clean and neat by organizing, sweeping, emptying trash, spray washing pallets and carts and other cleaning as needed Stock cooler and freezer Coordinate food pickups with vendors Recycle the cardboard from both buildings into the appropriate containers Assist with distributing the Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) boxes on the first Wednesday of the month if needed Coordinate special activities in the loading dock such as food drives Complete required reports and timesheets Assist in annual inventory with Bookkeeper and volunteers Suggest improvements in the operation and safety of loading dock, clothes shop and storage areas Assist with general maintenance activities such as cleaning up spills, keeping sidewalks clear of debris and snow Be knowledgeable about and adhere to food safety policies Provide courteous service and accurate information to donors and guests Attend orientation, trainings, and meetings when requested Contribute to a positive working environment through words and actions
Education and Experience Requirements High School diploma, GED or equivalent required. Basic math and English proficiency. Computer and data entry experience required.
Job Requirements Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to read, write and speak the English language effectively. Ability to talk clearly and logically in person and on the telephone. Ability to hear in person and on the telephone. This can be a very busy position during various times of the year requiring ability to meet deadlines, pay close attention to details and ability to work independently while being courteous, polite, and respectful of others. Exercises judgment in the performance of all activities associated with materials handling and office management tasks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Physical Requirements Duties and responsibilities are performed in a variety of environments including the food shelf, office area, storage area, loading dock and clothes shop. There is a frequent amount of physical effort (bending, walking and lifting) required to stock and move supplies and things from one area or building to another area or building. Ability to lift and push 60+ pounds of materials without restriction using proper body mechanics with or without material handling equipment. Moving and lifting activities occupies about 50 - 70% of the work time. Visual acuity for near and far and color differentiation required.
Other physical demands may include, but not limited to, sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, twisting at the waist, twisting at the neck, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, feeling, lifting, carrying simultaneously, push and or pull/lift/bend with reaching to full extension.
Relationships This position will work frequently with WVS staff, volunteers, donors and clients and will be supervised by the Executive Director. The individual develops an active work plan based on the agency’s strategic plan and uses his/her judgment, initiative, and self-supervision in completing specific work. All work is subject to direction from the Executive Director who defines the general activities within the broad limits of established policies and procedures. The employee participates in staff meetings and has individual conferences with the Director to discuss general phases and specific details of work, as needed.
