Subject: Stations of the Cross Devotions for Lent

Church of the Holy Spirit ─ Office of Religious Education 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT 06903 203 322-3722 Lenten Confirmation Curriculum Stations of the Cross Devotion Reconciliation and Penance Easter Triduum

The Lenten and Easter Seasons of the Church Liturgical Year are a time to pray, celebrate all that Jesus did for us, meditate, fast and give of ourselves to. This is the holiest time of the Church year and is especially important and relevant to our Confirmation candidates. We believe their participation in the Stations of the Cross and the three-part Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday)) will enrich their Confirmation preparation.

The Triduum (meaning three days in Latin) is the high point in the Liturgical year because it reminds us of what Jesus did for our salvation, we celebrate Christ’s Last Supper, Passion, Death and Resurrection. The Triduum observance starts on Holy Thursday which commemorates the institution of the Eucharist, Good Friday marks the Passion and Death of Christ on the cross, and ends with the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. The candidates will sit together as a class and some will participate in the service on Holy Thursday which is a required part of our confirmation curriculum.

The candidates are required to participate and prepare for the living Stations of the Cross during Lent. Practices are scheduled and are on the religious education calendar. If a candidate is unable to attend, he or she is required to attend the Stations of the Cross on another Friday evening during Lent . Please email Mrs. LaValle at [email protected] , if your teen is unable to participate in the Living Stations.

Each candidate should be in a state of grace before receiving the sacrament of Confirmation (or any other sacrament). Therefore, we will be having a Lenten prayer service on Tuesday evening in Lent, confessions will be heard after the prayer service. Please refer to the religious education calendar for the date of the prayer service. Confessions can also be heard on Saturdays from 4:00 – 4:45PM and other times during Lent. Please refer to the bulletin and website for additional dates and time for Confession during Lent.

Your support and prayers for all of our Confirmation candidates as they continue on their journey to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation is very much appreciated.
