Steps Taken to Ensure Field Trip Safety

1. Children are provided a club t-shirt and a green BGC wristband, which includes the Club's phone number.

2. Prior to leaving the Club, the children are given a talk on safety, rules, travel expectations and what they can expect and what will be expected of them once we arrive at our destination.

3. Children are divided into small groups with a minimum of two leaders.

4. Staff wear BGC lanyards and a BGC t-shirts.

5. Staff carry a BGC backpack containing a first aid kit, water bottles, extra sunscreen and bug spray, our children's portable records and emergency phone numbers, and an emergency phone list for hos- pitals and other emergency services, for both in town and the Edmonton area.

6. Bathroom breaks are provided, if there is not access on the bus.

7. All of our staff have current Level C First Aid & CPR.

8. Our staff complete headcounts every 15 minutes. This is done much more frequently on fieldtrips. For example; prior to leaving the main club doors, then again when leaving the building. Once again when the children are on the bus and if we stop for a bathroom break, a count will be done before leaving the rest stop. We count once again as the children are getting off the bus, and again as we separate into our smaller groups. At this point, the leaders continue to count children every 15 minutes and at every change in location, activity, etc. This process is repeated on the return trip back to the club, to ensure every single child returns home safely.

9. The Program Manager uses the Remind 101 app. to provide parents with information needed prior to the fieldtrip, our estimated times of arrival, both to and from the location, as well as any other perti- nent information between staff and parents.
