Position Description

Title: Vice President Member Services

Reports to: President & Chief Executive Officer

Nature & Scope of Work: The Vice President of Member Services is responsible for performing claims and underwriting functions and such other duties as are assigned by the President and Chief Executive Officer.

Examples of Work: (These examples are illustrative only and do not include all of the functions found in the position.)

a. Claims 1. Review of member claims audits. 2. Performing reinsurance audits of GEM members and/or coordinating work of GEM’s claims audit service provider. 3. Developing best practice claims standards for use in consultation with members. 4. Managing reinsurance claims filed by GEM members and/or coordinating work of GEM’s claims service providers. 5. Preparing and making recommendations to the President & CEO on coverage determinations. 6. Filing claims with GEM retrocessionaire(s) and coordinating related claims management. 7. Serving as a claims consulting resource for members.

b. Underwriting 1. Evaluating of member coverage documents. 2. Preparing scheduled rating recommendations for consideration of the President & Chief Executive Officer after evaluating prospect and member financial, loss, claims, state tort climate, underwriting and other program information 3. Preparing prospect and renewal proposals. 4. Assisting in the preparation and issuance of member reinsurance agreements and endorsements. 5. Assisting in developing best practice underwriting standards for use in consultation with members. 6. Coordinating underwriting activities with GEM’s actuary and marketing service providers. 7. Serving as an underwriting resource for members.

c. Other Program Activities

Desired Training and Experience

At least 10 years claims handling, management and auditing experience. Advanced degree and Charter Property Casualty Underwriter or Associate in Reinsurance designations preferred. Commercial reinsurance underwriting, law degree, public entity pool or insurance company experience a plus.
