Foundation Leave
We encourage our employees to participate in their communities through volunteer work for non- profit organisations of their choice. To support the volunteer efforts of our staff, Company X provides 5 paid Foundation Leave days per financial year to all permanent full-time employees and 2 paid days of Foundation Leave per financial year for permanent part-time employees. Note: Foundation Leave does not roll over or accrue from one financial year to the next. Activist activities and attending conferences do not qualify as Foundation Leave.
Eligibility
Only permanent full-time and part-time employees are able to take Foundation Leave. Contract and casual workers are not eligible to take Foundation Leave.
Process to request Foundation Leave
Note: Due to the varied nature of volunteer charitable work, the following are intended as guidelines only. Within these guidelines approval is almost certain (not withstanding workload commitments). Outside of these guidelines, approval may be given but is less likely.
Local Community Foundation Leave Guidelines
Local community is defined as anywhere you can travel to by car in under 3 hours. 1. Maximum of 5 days per financial year combined for both local and remote Foundation Leave. No joining of years (for example, you can't join 5 days of Foundation Leave in June with another 5 days in July). 2. No funding or subsidising by Company X Foundation of personal costs involved in participating in program including fees imposed by charitable organisation (exceptions may be made on this for group involvement such as we have made for X activities.) 3. Must have a clear charitable nature to the activity although doesn't need to involve a registered charity. For example, coaching the local deaf soccer team qualifies whereas coaching your son's local community soccer team does not. 4. Request approval of Foundation Leave 5. Assign to your Manager to approve leave per guidelines. If outside guidelines please seek guidance from the Foundation Manager
Remote Community Foundation Leave Guidelines
Remote community defined as anywhere you cannot travel to by car in under 3 hours. 1. Maximum of 5 days per financial year combined for both local and remote Foundation Leave. No joining of years (for example, you can't join 5 days of Foundation Leave in June with another 5 days in July). 2. No funding or subsidising by X Foundation of personal costs involved in participating in program including fees imposed by charitable organisation (exceptions may be made on this for group involvement such as we have made for x activities.) 3. Must have a clear charitable nature to the activity although doesn't need to involve a registered charity. 4. Request approval of Foundation Leave 5. Assign the issue to your manager to approve the leave per these guidelines. If your request is outside these guidelines, please seek guidance from the Foundation Manager 6. Each day of Foundation Leave must be matched by one day of annual leave for example if you want to do 4 days remote community Foundation Leave you will need to take 2 days annual leave and 2 days Foundation Leave. 7. Travel to and from location of activity does not count in 1 and 2 above.
Note: Guidelines 6 and 7 in remote section are in addition to those for local community Foundation Leave.
Why is there a difference between Remote and Local Community Foundation Leave?
X wants to encourage Foundation Leave to be taken within your local community and to focus on giving back to your local community.
Will I be covered by workers compensation insurance while on Foundation Leave?
No. While Foundation Leave is certainly encouraged by X, taking leave in support of a charitable organisation of your choosing is deemed to be an activity that is outside the scope of your employment.
Group Foundation Leave
If you are planning to participate in a group Foundation Leave day, all group members will need to lodge individual leave applications with their respective manager.
